If alchemy = rational thought, (and historically it has), then the answer is yes.

1) Alchemy is an archaic practice.
2) It is possible to have BOTH religious belief and religious skepticism, they don't need a bridge (and alchemy would not be it).
3) Atheism is not skepticism; it is belief that God does not exist. Skepticism has more in common with agnosticism than atheism. Skepticissm is (according to Merriam-Webster "1 : an attitude of doubt or a disposition to incredulity either in general or toward a particular object
2 a : the doctrine that true knowledge or knowledge in a particular area is uncertain b : the method of suspended judgment, systematic doubt, or criticism characteristic of skeptics
3 : doubt concerning basic religious principles (as immortality, providence, and revelation)
synonym see UNCERTAINTY". Skeptic "Etymology: Latin or Greek; Latin scepticus, from Greek skeptikos, from skeptikos thoughtful, from skeptesthai to look, consider -- more at SPY".

Agnosticism: Etymology: Greek agnOstos unknown, unknowable, from a- + gnOstos known, from gignOskein to know -- more at KNOW
1 : a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god
2 : a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something

Atheism Etymology: Middle French athéisme, from athée atheist, from Greek atheos godless, from a- + theos god
1 archaic : UNGODLINESS, WICKEDNESS
2 a : a disbelief in the existence of deity b : the doctrine that there is no deity

Alchemy is the art and science of turning the base into the precious, IE lead to gold. A religious person performs alchemy by finding their god in organized rights and rituals. A spiritual person preforms alchemy by finding their god in themselves.
BTW, to say you are an Atheist is to say you have looked upon the face of god and said "I don't see you, you don't exists. Agnostics believe in what is known (gnostic is Latin for knowledge) and what can be proven. So to be an Atheist is to have proven the existence of a divine being and laughed in their face, not the disbelieve in one.

Alchemy is nothing but an ancient stupid science that claimed the ability to turn ordinary metals into gold. It has nothing to do with religion or the lack thereof.

And Jesus said, "I am the way, Truth and Light; I am the Door, no one comes to the Father except through Me"...Then He said: " IF you come another way: you are a thief and a robber"

Alchemy was 'the thief's way...it ONLY appeared to be trying to turn lead into gold...they wanted to exalt the soul, via gnostic and esoteric knowledge.

So, it is a bridge (or they wanted it to be) from man to God; but, they couldn't get it constructed.
