The only way to make yourself WANT to read a book is to have a genuine interest in the subject matter. If I had to read a book as a requirement in school, I would usually get it on audio.

The problem I have encountered with my students who have trouble reading is that they have to spend so much time sorting out the words they forget what they just read. T
he best way to get past these problems is to practice. Read something lower then your reading level you find interesting. Tabloids are good for this. They are short bits of information and the articles are fun to read (just don't take them seriously).
Also, don't be embarrassed to read children's books. I will still pick up and read books meant for children such as "A Wrinkle in Time", "Rikki Tikki Tavi" and "Where the Wild Things Are"- good writing is meant for everyone, children's books are not.
The more you practice the better your fluency (ability to read in a fluid, constant rate). Then you move up to more difficult reading material.
The two most important things to remember are 1) interesting material 2) practice.

It helps if the book you are reading is about something you enjoy. Sometimes you have to just force yourself to read the first two or three chapters to get into it. You should also turn off all distractions like the TV or stereo. Get into a comfortable chair and make sure you have good lighting from behind your head so the light isn't shinning in your eyes.
Good luck and good read

Read a book that interests you. Find a topic that is cool. Follow the words with your fingers or the line you are on with a ruler.

I do that sometimes too! I lvoe to read, but sometimes I go over the same line over and over again! My trick is to find something you are really interested in. Do you like mysteries on t.v? Dramas? base that around your books. I find pictures helps me read better. HOPE ALL GOES WELL!
Yours sincerely, Becky
