I'm writing a research essay and I'm having trouble getting started. A three point thesis is required for the paper.

This is what I have for the moment:

The U.S. should sign the Kyoto Protocol because it helps protect the environment, promotes environmental education and can lead to the development of alternate energy resources.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Evidence of Global Warming
If the voices of future generations could be heard, they would plead for action on climate change. The unborn children of tomorrow will bear the heavy burden of our indifference.
Historical Trend of Warming Temperatures
Carbon Dioxide Increasing in Atmosphere
Methane Also Increasing
More Frequent Extreme Weather
Disappearing Glaciers
Melting Arctic Sea Ice
Melting Antarctic Sea Ice
Greenland's Ice Sheet Melting

KYOTO PROTOCOL TO THE UNITED NATIONS FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE
The Convention on Climate Change sets an overall framework for intergovernmental efforts to tackle the challenge posed by climate change. It recognizes that the climate system is a shared resource whose stability can be affected by industrial and other emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. The Convention enjoys near universal membership, with 189 countries having ratified.

Under the Convention, governments:

gather and share information on greenhouse gas emissions, national policies and best practices
launch national strategies for addressing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to expected impacts, including the provision of financial and technological support to developing countries
cooperate in preparing for adaptation to the impacts of climate change
The Convention entered into force on 21 March 1994.

The U.S. has signed, but not ratified, the Kyoto Protocol.

The U.S. is the largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world. China is the second largest. The emission rate of China is growing much faster than that of the U.S. so that, if the trend continues, within a few decades China will pass the U.S. to become the #1 emitter of carbon dioxide in the world. The Kyoto protocol assigns a mandatory reduction goal to the U.S. and imposes monetary penalties for failure to achieve the required reduction. The protocol puts no mandatory limit on China and of course no monetary penalties.

So the U.S. should not ratify. See the sources for more information.

I would check out the Liberal Party of Canada (the current official opposition in the House of Commons) website. They are highly supportive of Kyoto and specify many reasons and the good of it. A lot of the more general reasons for signing are transferable between countries.

basically because of China, India, and different international locations that compete with us given an unfair benefit with the emissions allowed them relative to us. you could blame our "Environmentalists" for putting us in this detrimental place. interior the 70's and 80's, our scientists and engineers observed that image voltaic, Wind, and so on. might desire to no longer furnish the quantity of capability needed, and Nuclear replaced into the only genuine option that would desire to offer the skill needed and enable us to minimize Fossil use. international locations like France at the instant are 80% Nuclear and are happy to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Our enlightened "Environmentalists" killed our Nuclear skill industry and compelled us to proceed increasing our use of fossil. you could thank our "Environmentalists" for our gas fees additionally. think of autos are the project? autos are decrease than 10% of CO2 emissions. development Heating and cooling is extra desirable than double the emmissions of autos. reducing our use of fossil for electric skill replaced into the middle of our international locations capability plan until the "Environmentalists" had their way. those are an identical those that advised us 2 many years in the past the biggest project replaced into SO2 and Particulate pollution, and we've been all going to freeze to demise. i do no longer have confidence something they say.
