No, you don't need to buy a new pot. I use my aluminum pots and have never had a problem. Put your eggs in cold water and bring to a full boil. If you notice that any of your eggs crack add a little white vinegar and this will keep the egg from leaving the shell. Then lower heat and let boil for 10-15 minutes. Drain off water and rinse with cold water to stop cooking and helps keep yolk yellow. Place on paper towels or in colander to dry off. Your ready to dye your eggs!

I think that is an old wives tale. All my Mom ever cooked in was Revere ware and that is aluminum pots with copper bottoms. I have used stainless steel and non stick pots.. and its worked fine.
Just don't over cook the eggs or they will crack. boil about 20 minutes and then bath in cold water to set them.. then use vinegar and hot water (1/2 cup each) and add food coloring.
If you don't want colored fingers for Easter Sunday you might have the kids wear latex gloves when dipping.. and use newspaper on the table so it doesn't get colored either.
Happy Easter!! :-)

You can hard boiled eggs in any type of pot.

You should only use glass or plastic bowls for the dye. Some food colors may intereact w/ metal.
