In the movie "The Passion" , does the actor really receive all that punishment?
Why the Catholic Church banned "The Temptation..." and workshiped "The Passion"?
I think that if Jesus was a leader, also had fans, so being in loved with a woman is natural.
Do you like to think Jesus as a married man?

People seem to think that The Last Temptation said that Jesus married and had children etc, but that whole sequence was a fantasy sequence. Jesus was tempted and thought of what it would be like to live a normal life. He rejects that thought and dies in accordance with prophesy.

One of the mysteries of Jesus is how he could be both god and man. If he was man, then what it wrong with portraying him as a man?

Scripture says he was man. There is nothing in scripture that says he did not have human urges. In my mind, it is a more powerful story of sacrifice to think of a man who willingly gave up the pleasures of life to save man. That is special. It doesn't happen to normal people.

That is a much more beautiful story than in THe Passion, where a man gets tortured to death against his will. That actually does happen to real people all the time. There is nothing magical about it.

And BTW, I can't imagine a bigger sacrifice a man could make than to give up a life with Barbara Hershey. I think she is the most beautiful woman in the history of Hollywood.

The Passion of the Christ. Last Temptation was seriously weird! BTW, Ladyren, your cut and pasted rant has its basic facts wrong. All four Gospels are primary sources with John claiming to be an eyewitness account. You also need to understand that in the First Century there is no way anyone would ever try to start a new religion on the basis of a crucified man. It was a total non-starter - unless, of course, it happened to be true ....

the Catholic Church did not worship or endorse the Passion, that was something leaked out to the press by the Opus Dei liason at the Vatican (which the Vatican never endorsed) because most asociated with the film were Opus Dei. It was non denominationals and evangelicals who worshipped that movie (ironic because they ended up giving money to Opus Dei which thinks they are all going to hell.

3 People did die on the set of the passion and the guy playing Jesus was struk by lightning while hanging on the cross (Isn't that God's universal sign for stop???).

This movie directly goes against alot of Catholic theology as Mel Gibson is a schizmatic and built his own Church that is not sanctioned by Rome.

There is no evidence Jesus whatsoever Jesus was ever married. Believe it if you like but it is a false statement as there is more to suggest he remained single.

The Last Temptation of Christ was banned and boycotted because it portrayed the story of Jesus in a manner that was not supported by scripture. For example, the story begins with Jesus, a carpenter, building crosses for the Romans. There's also a scene in which Jesus goes into a ancient-time whorehouse, and sits in line with other men waiting on a chance to speak to Mary Magdelene (who was shown as a prostitute in the film). The most heretical part of the film was that while Jesus hung on the cross, he was tempted by Satan (in the form of a young girl) who convinces him that God has changed his mind and the crucifixion isn't necessary after all. Jesus comes down and lives his life as man (marrying Mary Magdelene and having children). On his deathbed, he realizes that he had been tricked, and prays for another chance. God places Christ back on the cross and salvation is, in fact, secured for mankind.

The Passion of the Christ basically followed the scriptures.

The Last Temptation was a wonderful movie that I thoroughly enjoyed, but the film-maker took "artistic liberties" with The Bible, something that most Christians aren't too fond of.

The Last Temptation of Christ was rejected by the Catholic Church as heresy; I just thought it a strange but interesting piece of fiction.

The Passion of The Christ was a detailed look at the death of Jesus; I understand they took great pains to make sure it matched with scripture all the way through. Of course, there were some additional things in it which makes it fiction, but it was pretty close to what happened.

The Last Temptation of Christ is based on gnostic scriptures (Martin Scorsese is a gnostic), and shows that Jesus was completely human, and also that he loved Mary Magdalene. The reason the Catholics don’t like this film (or the DaVinci Code) is because it creates interest in ancient gnostic christianity. The most dangerous threat to Catholicism is not Protestantism, it’s gnosticism, always was, and always will be.

the funny thing is that christians were BLAZING with anger when "the last temptation" came out, yet the truth is that that movie is much more beautiful in its message.

the passion was very simplistic and did nothing other that preach to the choir and "guilt" people into the faith.

the last temptation didnt portray a married christ, it merely showed christ longing (through an extended dream experience) for a human life instead of the suffering on the cross.

It was a movie depicting what happened to Jesus in real life, no the actor did not receive that punishment, but he was electrocuted twice while up on the cross during a thunder storm while the movie was being filmed. No Jesus was not married nor did He have sex.

"In the movie 'The Passion' , does the actor really receive all that punishment?" - The actor had a board strapped to his back to absorb the shock of the whip. I heard on an interview that they missed the board once and actually hit the actor! That had to hurt!

Jesus is God in the flesh and was perfect and sinned not. He was pure and was not married and never had any sexual relations with anyone. There is no where in the bible that states that He was ever married. Jesus loved everyone and was friends to all. Does that mean that Jesus was married to everyone that He was nice to? no it doesn't. Are you married to all of your friends? Can people not be friends without people thinking you are married or having a sexual relationship with them. People are so dick to think this about our Lord. I don't know how or why people think this. It is not biblical.
