I was thinking of waiting for the 2008 model but when I researched the Ford/Mercury web site - they will be re-launching Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable - they look like the 500/montego. What is the deal? Will 500/montego be morphed into Taurus/Sable?

It was in the news, Ford realized that you don't mess with a good thing. The Taurus name was what sold cars, and they are changing the 500 back to Taurus.

Just a name change. Ford realized they made a huge mistake getting rid of the taurus and sable. Name recognition was much higher for the taurus then the 500.
They are decent cars. a little Conservative on the styling, the 2008 is a little flashier, but driving and handling is very good.

500 will become the Taurus with a small metal change for certain. Montego - Sable, I have not seen anything there.

The Taurus NAME will be brought back.
The Five-Hundred will be re-NAMED.
The Five-Hundred is currently built in Chicago, at the factory that used to build the Taurus.
The Fusion is actually the car that replaced the Taurus & it is selling VERY well. But much to Fords surprise, the Fusion sells to a totally different demographic Than the Taurus used to.
The Taurus was more of a typical family sedan & the Fusion is much more appealing to a younger, funner & sportier set of consumers.
The Five-Hundred has a more 'sedate' look to it (which is being freshened for '08) and it is more appealing to our (previous) Taurus clientel so Ford is re-naming the vehicle to suit the clientel.
Makes sense to me. I sell them.

They are changing the names to TAURUS but not the style..they just think the taurus name will help sell more cars

what happened was that ford already had the taurus, then changed it's name to the 500, and now they are simply changing it back to the taurus. so actually, the 500 was really the taurus in disguise.
