YES YES YES you are supposed to tip housekeeping. They work very hard and are paid very little because "tips" are supposed to pad their wages. However so few people are courteous enough to tip it's a sad life.

is this housekeeping with a hotel or coming to your house?
Depending on what you need housekeeping to do at a hotel will depend on the size of the tip. For instance if you don't need anything done at all with housekeeping I would tip $1-2 depending on how it looked when I opened the door. If I asked for towels, or linens and towels to be changed every day I would tip a little more. It would also depend on the amount of clutter I left for the housekeeper.
For housekeeping in the home, perhaps a monetary gift around the holidays as a thanks for the good work!

In a hotel--Yes-- 2 to 5 dollars a day depending on the amount of service. Tips these maids daily as you usually do not have the same one everyday.
In a hospital--No--They are not allowed to accept and if they do and are found out it can cost them their job.
In your home No. You pay a salary. At Christmas a gift of one week's salary is what most give, plus a small token gift.

If you think they did a good job then show your appreciation by leaving a buck or two under the name card they usually leave. Especially if you're gonna be there a while. Leave them a note saying how long you'll be there and watch how responsive they are to requests for more towels, extra shampoo, or an extra pillow. I know this from experience.

Opening windows on the opposite sides of the room will draw air into the room. Keep the hot sun out. Box fans are good to use. They can be put in front of windows or in a window. Making ice in gallon plastic jugs and soda bottles and putting them in a container in front of a fan will help. Drinking ice water, something cold and iced tea will help. Putting cold rags on the forehead and rubbing the arms helps too.

yes housekeeping is always tipped because they are first of all dealing with personal after effects and also they are the silent forgivers of all the trash .... as comfortably as we can put it ..... that we leave for them to erase...... so that "we" as the next guest do not see
it is unfair yet not unusual that hotel and motel management expect this demeaning task to be unrewarded unless we as the guest recognize the importance of this duty and reward them ourselves we should say thankyou even if management doesn't

like in a hotel? no.
a home service? well you're already paying for that.
maybe a card with a gift certificate around the holidays would be sufficient in this case.
