New York is expensive. $8 for smokes, have to pay for parking everywhere, a $70,000 home in Omaha Nebraska would cost you $300k in New York. Not to mention the crime, the amount of people doing the same thing as you, and commuting. Even rent for a studio apartment is $1400 a month. Better save tons of money and have a job lined up before you make the move.

On your own, no. You degree means little especially without experience. Is it possible, absolutely! Check the village voice and get a room mate. Also, expect to still be in a crappy, tiny apartment! If you want to be totally solo expect to rent a room and share a bathroom for about $600 a month!

It will be difficult on your own, that is why most people have roommates. At least you can get a little better place rather than go for a cheap place that may wind up being dirty, noisy unsafe, not in a good neighborhood and far from work.
Advertise on Craigslist for a roommate.

"Logic" 2 above has obviously never lived here.
If you mean "make it on your own" meaning that you will be able to live without help from your parents, then yes. If you mean it to live without roommates, then it will be tough. But if you are young, then living with roommates can be fun!!!
You will probably have to live in an outer borough, live check to check and get your parents to co-sign on a lease for you, but you should be able to make it. And in a few years when your salary is double, then you should be set.

I dont think it would be. Remember you've only got a BA so that limits your starting pay to about 40k a year...second average apartment will rin you about 1500 a month. Now you got to add food, and utilities, and subway/bus fare...you can probably do it, but without being able to do much else.
P.S. there are a million BA's....i would suggest getting your masters first.

It's the hardest. As the song goes: "if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere, it's up to you New York, New York".
Good luck, hon!
