there are plenty of places on the body that aren't "out there" and the back of the neck is not one of the best places i can think of to get a tattoo. for one, you probably won't always have long hair. most women as they get older tend to cut their hair. more than half of the women i know in their fourties have short hair. it's just something to think about. i won't get a tattoo on my neck for that reason, i want to be able to conceal my tattoos and a neck is somewhat harder to hide.

I don't see anything remotely trashy about getting a tattoo to commemorate someone you cared about. I think that's something that'll really mean a lot to you. But I don't see anything trashy about tattoos generally; whereas some people seem to object to them on a fundamental level and consider ALL tattoos trashy.

Really, the only person whose opinion matters here is yours. If you want to do it and are happy with it, the thoughts and feelings of a bunch of strangers off the internet are pretty much by the by.

I'm not sure about your thinking regarding placement... I would say that the back of your neck may be visible more often than you think, and if you want a tattoo that's for your private benefit rather than for show, there are plenty of other places you could put it that'll be covered by your clothes. But again, this is absolutely up to you. It's your body, your tattoo, and your choice.

Good luck!
