I just started about a month ago, and I have a book that tells the different meanings of the cards. Alot of the cards that I get seem accurate for the situations, but I'm having a hard time getting my readings to flow together ... if that makes sense.
Is this something that develops over time? Or are there any techniques that could help me with this particular problem?

By the way, I've been using the traditional "Celtic cross" layout and also a 3 card spread.

drop the book, relax your mind and look for the story in the cards--it's like a tapestry, one card is a scene that plays into the next

The thing about Tarot is that if you do it too much then your readings will become indistinct and eventually every reading will be negative even for other people. Too much Tarot will eventually make you physically ill if you become dependent on them and all of the bad readings will cause you to worry. I suggest these remedies:
1. Get a hematite stone and place it on top of the deck. Hematite absorbs negative energy and thus will turn your cards positive.
2. Reduce your readings down to once or twice a month. You'll find that the less you use them, the more accurate your readings will be.
3. Play relaxing music or nature sounds while practicing your Tarot.
4. Get some animal power. If you have a pet try to get your pet's paws to run or walk across the cards. Animals are sinless and this will in some way purify your cards.

I hope this helps.

Tarot is a meditation method. Nothing metaphysical is taking place. You are using the cards to sort your own thoughts and experiences, or those of the person you're reading for. All the cards do is get you to ask the questions and start thinking about what they could mean. It's the same with runes, bones or any other "divination" method. You are simply circumventing your conscious expectations. This is why sometimes the cards don't flow. This is why most people who use these techniques pick a tarot deck/style with which they feel a personal affinity, as it helps the creative thinking and inspiration process.

And when you ask these kinds of questions you just bring out the religious nuts who start seeing demons under and in your bed.

This is a 11 card spread I use and is very successful

Just lay the first 5 cards at the top
And the next 5 below them
And one below that in the centre
That is the Long term future card

1st Card = Person in Question

2nd Card = Possibilities & Problems

3rd Card = Best course of Action

4th Card = Past influence

5th Card = Current atmosphere

6th Card = Short term future

7th Card = The present state of the situation

8th Card = Outside influences

9th Card = Home environment

10th Card = The Querent subconscious feelings

11th Card = Long term future

Love & Blessings

i would reccomend that you simply throw the book away.

the cards ahve traditional meanings. but they are a thing of magic. spend the time that you would spend reading the book meditating on the cards. and you will find that the cards will begin to have new meanings to you in every situation.

it is called a reading because you read the cards. not a book. you will find that the cards will grant you insight that the book does not.

this is where the problem with the flow of your readings comes from. the cards are right. the interpritation in the book is incorrect.

They just don't work, that's the problem. It's all coming from you. Here's an easy test. Sit 5 people you don't know down and do 5 readings, without any input from them. Then tell them all to write on a piece of paper which was meant for them, while you do it seperately. If they are right, this guy will give you a million dollars. http://www.randi.org

It is more effective if you have someone else do your reading(s) for you---and NEVER do it more than 2 times in one day.

Always remember that The Devil is a good card.

if you have a talent for reading it usually just flows into the reading and I have also seen that in certain cases that your sub-conshous may have more going on in your reading then you are aware of other then that just work it out all things usually mean something

I usually use tea leaves and bat feces myself. It's a bit difficult getting the bat feces but they're the best in telling the future. I used them the other day to tell me that the day after Saturday is Sunday. I know, I was amazed, too.
