i just hooked up my car w/ a system, and i kept my factory cd player just cause i liked the way it looked. but i had to buy some converter which converts my factory speaker wires to RCA outputs so i could hook up the amplifier. all my amp wires are secure, but i do not know where to hook up my remote wire. i currently have my remote wire connected straight from the amplifiers remote input to the amplifiers power input. and this is not good cause now my amp stays on 24/7, and i am afraid that it will drain my battery. and i dont think that my cars factory cd player has a remote wire for it. if it does can someone help me figure this out please
i drive a 2002 Honda Civic EX

The best and easiest way in this car is to tap into the power wire at the back of the cigarette lighter. In a Honda, the cigarette lighter works with the key switch in the accessory position, exactly like the radio does, and it will turn off when you turn the key off.

It's much, much easier to get to the back of the cigarette lighter than to get to the back of the radio in this car; in fact, you have to remove the panel with the cig. lighter before you can get to the back of the radio anyway.

Yes, the power antanna wire serves the same function as the remote wire, but ONLY when the radio is selected. When you switch to CD, it will turn off. The power antanna wire only works when the radio (am/fm, not the unit itsself) is on.
What you need to do is put a switch on the wire you currently have. This way it'll only be on when you turn it on, good for cop-watch! Make sure you put like a 5amp fuse before the switch.

Good Luck!

If you took a radio out of a GM or are putting one in and its a factory radio, you need to input the unlock code to make it work. The dealership or service department will have this info. Some will do it at no charge, some charge. Its a odd combo.

If you have a power antenna, tap into the wire for it at the back of the radio. If not, then run a wire from any accessory hot to your remote wire.
