I would like to take advantage of the Passport On-Line application. I understand you are given a unique code or serial number in order to expedite the service and bypass the line up.

But... I have already filled out the forms manually.

If I use the online application, can I still submit the forms that I have filled out manually with my guarantor signatures or does my guarantor have to fill out the printed on line form with the serial number attached?

Hope this doesn't sound confusing...

The on-line service only is a system to fill in the application. You don't submit it electronically anyway. Like you state, you still need the guarantor signature, your signature and photos.

If you don't need it right away, you can mail it and avoid the lines. But if you need it sooner, you will need to stand in line.

1. If you're traveling by land or sea (and trains count as land), you can travel between the USA and Canada with a passport book OR a passport card. 2. You cannot get it on line. travel.state.gov/passport has good info. With five weeks to go, your best bet is to go to a post office or other acceptance facility to apply for your book or card, whether or not you've already had a passport (which it seems like you haven't). 3. The costs are on the website above; the card is less expensive. It will cost the same whether you in person or apply through the mail (which you can do if you've already had a passport) 4. You're cutting it close, but passports are coming back these days in 3-4 weeks. To be extra sure you could pay an extra expediting fee, or even go to the passport office in Boston, and get it in 24 hours. But you're not that pressed for time, so go apply tomorrow and save the money. In your details: the advice that you can go to Canada with only a license/ birth certificate is outdated. Technically you could probably get into Canada, but since 2007 you've needed a passport (book or card) to get back into the US--so as practical matter you need the passport!
