I have an old 85 honda prelude and I installed a stereo a friend gave me for free. It worked fine at first, then the CD player stopped working. After that the speakers would occasionally make this loud horrific "hash-buzz" sound if it was turned on too loud. Eventually, whenever I would turn on the stereo it would always make that sound and I would have to turn it off immediately (the sound would still linger for a few minutes). Now when I turn the radio on I can see that it's on but I can't hear anything. What is the problem?

Make sure all of your connections in the back are all connected nice and tight. If it is not the connections, maybe the stereo is dying. Rather than spending the time and suffering the aggravations, it may be cheaper in the long run to get a nice cheap stereo put in. Circuit City or BestBuy has free basic install. If you buy a $100 cd/mp3 player, it will end up costing you about $150 for the install, parts and taxes. I hope this helps.
