The U.S. will win if the Democrats let the military finish the job. The military did not lose in Vietnam. The democrats pulled the funding. Let alone LBJ's meddling in operational planning caused a multitude of blunders. What would have happened had we decided causalities at Normandy beach or Iwo Jima were too great and quit? How would the Twentieth century have looked had we let Hitler have Europe and let Japan continue it's rampage of the pacific and the better part of Asia Minor?

We're not trying to win. We're trying to fix it so al Maliki can win. In the "gaining support for the administration" area, he seems to be doing a better job than Mr. Bush, so it's quite possible the Democrats may have a difficult situation on their hands in the next administration: If they take the White House on an anti-war platform and find things in Iraq more positive, what then? And will either party be able to increase the size of the military, as is so obviously needed? I really don't know the answer, but it promises to be interesting finding out.

The United States will not win the war with Iraq.

The United States will not win because people are like cattle, generally speaking. Allow me to explain this last statement. Cattle tend to obey the heard. If one cow gets spooked then the whole entire heard runs for safety even though there may or may not have been danger. People tend to act in a similar fashion. When it was popular to go to war with Iraq the majority of voters supported it and we were able to invade the country. When it became unpopular because of all of the bad media coverage then, just like a heard of cattle, the american voters got spooked and now they want to pull out.

A form of government like the type the United States has can not win the type of wars that Bush declared. Forms of government such as countries like Iran have can win because thier government has more control on the media and can manipulate popular opinion much better.

I cannot answer that, nor can anyone else. We did win the war, but what is going on today is the USA helping the new government stay in control while terrorists from Iran and Syria try to take down the new, and legally elected government.

If you want to hear the truth you need to ask the grunts, but you will never hear them on the MSM, they are censored because they are positive they can accomplish the mission and that goes against what the press and the Bushhaters want you to know.

Define Win? As a rational person would surmise, the answer would be no.

We technically won the war already. We kicked the military's butt, installed a new gov.

Problem is, we're still dealing with an insurgent war. That war we will not likely win. We'll end up pulling out eventually.

I don't think that winning this war is like a checkmate. The board nor the pieces are in black and white.
Victory to the Iraqis is being an independent nation. That's something that will make us lose.
For one thing our version of independent is not the same as theirs. For all we know a government ran by religion it's what's good for them. Our independence and democracy has never "worked" well in the middle east. Look at history with the Persian wars.

I dont think in terms of "winning" the war in Iraq. The conflict in Iraq has moved from usurping an ugly dictator to being in the middle of a civil war, hence there is no winning for the US......

The U.S. already won militarily. Winning Iraqi hearts and minds isn't a war objective. Destroying military bases, bombing strategic locations, controlling the skies, etc. are military objectives. Occupations aren't exactly what I consider military. Pillaging and moving on to the next target is.

Huh? We already won. Remember - "Mission Accomplished". It's just winning the peace that's "Mission Impossible".
