Yes they can get it when it oozes. You need to get calimine lotion to dry it up and stop the itch. Other itching cream only stop the itch but don't dry it up which is key in healing it.
And it's not deadly unless you ingest it. If it's on the outside of your skin, it's contagious, but not deadly. Just really really itchy and annoying.

Ok first off the only way Poison Ivy is deadly is if you chewed up a bunch of the plant and swallowed it.. thus the swelling and the itching closes off your airway and you die.. so since that is unlikely to have happened since you are typing out your delimas on Yahoo. It's not deadly..
Second, if you itch your sores and they ooze it is easy for the toxins to transfer from person to person. Thus, wash you hands alot, using calamine or something like that is good too.. I have found that washing with an anti bacterial or bleach is good to kill the toxins from the plant and also dry out your skin so that it won't spread. It spreads with the oils of the skin thus making it worse when you itch. So do a couple of those things, if that doesn't work use some of the other things that these people have suggested.. but home remedies like bleach is good too.. just DILUTE IT FIRST :D Hope that helps dear

In the past I've had poison sumac which is the result of poison oak; and much more severe. I went to the local pharmacist and he gave me something called 'jewel weed' ointment. It cleared it up in about 2/3 days. It came in a little kit that included the jewel weed soap and these little tablets that you chew about every 2 hours to stop the itching. The kit cost me around $20; but it was well worth it. Good Luck & happy itching.
p.s.- It's only contagious for the first 24 hours.

Poison ivy isn't deadly unless you happen to be allergic, or unless someone is burning it and you inhale the smoke. But it is extremely uncomfortable.
The ooze won't give your friends poison ivy: They could only get it by touching you where you touched the offending plant. But that's not likely to happen either, since you and your clothes are clean.
Feel better, and try not to scratch!

You need to go to the pharmacy and ask for some Ivy Dry. Also pick up the oatmeal bath solution they have and use that for a few days. That will help clear it up. If it's oozy, you can definitely spread it to other parts of you body, but I'm not sure if other people could get it or not. I know it's not airborne.....it's contact related.

They aren't going to get it from you. It's an allergy to an oil. Once the oil is washed from your clothes and skin, and once it penetrates down into your skin, they can't get it from you.
The only way they could get it from you is if their skin contacted yours while the oil from the leaves was still fresh on your skin. By the time you break out, it's been on your skin for hours and has penetrated in. They can't get it then, even if they contact the "ooze" coming out. It's not contagious that way.
If you're not dead yet, you won't die. But.....someone could die from overexposure, especially if it got down into the lungs, like someone really allergic romped in a patch of it and breathed in dust from the plants. Otherwise, you're OK.

O.k. poison ivy is not deadly unless you are allergic to it. Where ever your body came in contact with it at you need to put some Calamine lotion on it, this will help with the itching. It is NOT contagious.

No! The itching is from irritating oils the plant produces, not a desease or something. Washing it all off gets rid of it.
