My hubby and I are debating which route to go. What are your opinions and experiences with either one???

I am 7 months pregnant with our 2nd child, we have a 2 1/2 year old boy and a girl on the way. My hubby doesn't want any more kiddos, and I am not sure either way... Of course being a female and having the mother instinct I would love to have 10 kids... But realistically, we can give 2 children a wonderful life where as 3-4 would be a little difficult financially... So really we don't need any more kids, but I am afraid that I will want another in a few years... But with a tubal, the decision to have another will aready be decided... same as with a vasectomy.. We are 23 and 24 years old, so I am wondering what your opinions are about it. I am scheduled to have a c-section, so it would be the best time to do it if I were going to... But which one is a better choice?? Why?? and do they hurt?? either one of them?? I just need outside help, as I kow this is a huge decision...

I am already having a scheduled c-section and since I am gonna be open and at the hospital for a few days and already in pain for the surgery, that is why I am considering a tubal instead of a vasectomy...

For the man the recovery is much faster. He goes into the urologist snip snip he walks out with no problems maybe 1/2 hour later. For the woman they have to go in and cut and tie her tubes and recovery may be like a couple days.

You are being very responsible toward this situation. I want to commend you and your husband for this.

Yes, you will have the perfect family, one boy and one girl. Wasn't there an old song about that?

I would wait on both surgeries. You are both too young to make that decision now. There are plenty of birth control methods you can use to insure not having any more babies. You sound mature enough to be able to handle using birth control devices without becoming pregnant and calling it an accident. Give it some thought and talk more about it between you and your husband. You are ridden with hormones now and you will be for months after the new baby.

Good Luck to you. You won't be sorry at your age that you delayed the decision. It is easier for the husband to get the vasectomy.

At your age, I'm not sure a doc would easily do either. Vas usually has less complications and less downtime. It is also usually permanent. Saometimes the tubal doesn't work. Both are surgery so there is some discomfort. It certainly doesn't hurt as much as having a baby. I think you have had enough pain. He can take a little now. The vas is more easily reversed. Talk to a doc together.

Are you sure they will do both at the same time? I've never heard of a doc doing that.

Since you're already scheduled for a c-section, I'd just go ahead and get the tubal. You'll already be numbed up and that way your husband won't have to go through any discomfort. Though if you weren't already pregnant, I'd have your husband get the vasectomy because it is an easier procedure. You'll already have some discomfort from the c-section and vasectomies will have some pain, so why put both of you in pain when you'll already be half way there?

I just finished reading everyone else's comments and you did say that you couldn't afford anymore children. So if I were the parents considering whether or not to get it done, you just answered your own question.

Do not get either. You're not sure. I understand you're undergoing the c-section, and that seems like the best time. But it isn't. Do research on tubals. There are situations that are just now coming to light medically like painful periods, incessant backpain, not all suffer but do your research. But do not do either till you know for sure no more children.

I think the question isn't who should have the surgery; but if either of you should have the surgery at all. You are not completely sure you don't want more children. Why not wait until both of you are? You are both still so young to be deciding something so permanent about your future. My vote is to give it some time before taking that big step.

it is less costly and less dangerous for a man to undergo a vasectomy. also, the recovery time is shorter for a man.

Vasectomy is better and this is from a man's point of view.

It's easy to have done, little risk and cost. On top of that it frees you from having to worry about creating more little money sucking, crumb crunching urchins. You don't have to worry about knocking up...anyone!

Children are grossly overrated.
