According to the New Testament, one cannot become a good Chrostian worthy of becoming a disciple og Christ unless he hates his father and mother.

kevoboi, teddydis…, Romeo C, bats_fan…, wussupma, summer t…, Geaux_Ti…, cat.tuck, and others if you were to actually read your Bible you would find actually where I got this from, just as Layla and CC did. According to almost all Christians when Jesus came all the laws and rules of the Old Testament were null and void.

I enjoy how Christians want to point out when things are taken out of context but if they quote from the Quran and take it also out of context they do not understand why Muslims too are upset.

If a mother with the stature of the virgin Mary had been treated with such discourtesy, as depicted in the New Testament, by a son of the stature of Jesus (pbuh), then how should an average Christian mother be treated by her average Christain son
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26)
Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."
33"Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked.
34Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! 35Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."
Mark 3:31-35
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."
He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

When you pick out one verse in the Bible, it is very important to read the others verses around it. You can get the wrong meaning if you take one verse out of context.
Luke 14:25-34 (The Message)
25-27One day when large groups of people were walking along with him, Jesus turned and told them, "Anyone who comes to me but refuses to let go of father, mother, spouse, children, brothers, sisters—yes, even one's own self!—can't be my disciple. Anyone who won't shoulder his own cross and follow behind me can't be my disciple.
28-30"Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house, doesn't first sit down and figure the cost so you'll know if you can complete it? If you only get the foundation laid and then run out of money, you're going to look pretty foolish. Everyone passing by will poke fun at you: 'He started something he couldn't finish.'
31-32"Or can you imagine a king going into battle against another king without first deciding whether it is possible with his ten thousand troops to face the twenty thousand troops of the other? And if he decides he can't, won't he send an emissary and work out a truce?
33"Simply put, if you're not willing to take what is dearest to you, whether plans or people, and kiss it good-bye, you can't be my disciple.
34"Salt is excellent. But if the salt goes flat, it's useless, good for nothing.
"Are you listening to this? Really listening?"

Oh pe-leeze!!! It's ridiculous how people just take a particular verse from the Bible and separate continuous meaning just because they see 'little numbers' inserted as if they were meant to be read as individual statements! The 'little numbers' which indicate the verses are there to facilitate future and eventual reference and study!
And worse still, they join them up to other verses out of context in order to apparently disprove the Bible, the word of Christ as Son of God and push forward their own religious agendas. That's such a blown below the belt! Stick to what you know and believe, but don't try to brainwash by twisting the teachings and faith of others to gain advantages: that's called deceipt!
READ the whole context to fully understand what is meant! Basically, it means that If your foundations are week and you don't bother to educate yourself, learn, be prepared to change and accept the truth , even if they go against all the foundations of your upbringing in order to follow Jesus's word, then even those secure foundations will not guarantee or be enough to lead you to the truth, which is through Jesus....finish the whole chapter and try to understand.
This is an excellent example of those trying to corrupt through meddling of other's faiths!

I would need to see chapter and verse on that one. Gods command is to Honor your father and mother so that their days may be long upon the land. If you are referring to Christs command that a person must be willing to leave their father and mother (or other family) in order to follow him, then you are taking it out of context. It means that no one (not even parents) are to come before God.

No! it is a commandment to love and obey your parents.
With this in mind, there is a scripture which also speaks of leaving mother and one's father to become one with one's spouse.
With that said, Christ said this because it is a matter of following the faith.
Not all adhere to the faith, to become a part of the faith, much like marriage, one must leave parents behind to follow Christ.

it really is a perfect celebration of a false impression of the scriptures. The bible did not say that one ought to HATE his dad and mom or everybody else for that count.........the point it extremely is being made is this: that nonetheless kin is expensive to us, if we extremely prefer to be followers of Christ, we ought to love him more advantageous than issues or human beings. Many Jw's have had to settle on between God or kin. What I recommend is, extremely some our acquaintances and households have tried to cajole us that this isn't the fact.....yet our hearts forced us to do what became proper....to adhere to God's course and walk as Jesus did. we do no longer ought to provide up or throw away or households and acquaintances, yet we ought to make GOD priortiy one!

You're misinformed, and unwise to make a hurtful comment without at least offering some sort of scripture for us to look up so we can see what you're trying to convey.
Try again.
EDIT: It's obvious that quite a FEW of us here don't think you have any idea of what you're talking about. Don't you think now would be a good time to provide us with the scripture you found that made you think what you think?

When Jesus was alive and preaching to the Jewish people...he warned them that they would have to turn their backs on family and friend and that believing in him would tear them apart if they did not also believe. Turns out he was pretty much right.
Christians however, do not have to do this, its not a requirement. Families are still split up over religious belief though...shame.

what Jesus is trying to say is that we must put Him first and follow Him. God does not want us to hate any one He says we must love every one. We sometimes make up excuses and use our family for reasons why we can't do what Jesus is telling us to do. Noah's wife had to either listen to God or she could have stayed with her family. She decided to follow God and Noah and went on the ark, if she would have stayed with her family she would have drowned with them in the flood.
