Please please please watch this. I know many 3 year olds in the IDENTICLE care seat Kyle is in, in the pictures. They need to put the kids back in a 5 point harness. This is so sad, please rethink it!

This video is very sad, and very upsetting. But there are some things they leave out.

First, seatbelt failures are RARE. Unfortunately, with a three year old in a booster the failure is most likely user related. Namely the three year old playing with it, or not buckling himself in properly in the first place.

Second, the higher weight harnessed seats are great, you will never hear me speak out against them. But you cannot use LATCH beyond 48 pounds, generally (Honda only allows to 40 pounds, Subaru to 60, but many carseats stop allowing it at 48 pounds). So you WILL have to use a seatbelt at some point to secure your child.

Third, they recommend only one or two seats out there. The Regent and the Radian 80. The Regent is fabulous. But because of the video most places are out of stock. The Radian 80 is, in most CPSTs minds, a waste of money. The top slots are no higher than the Radian 65's, and a forward facing carseat is outgrown by height when the shoulders are over the top slots. The Radians would probably both be outgrown by 55 pounds or so by most kids. Sunshine Kids is talking about having their seat be allowed to go over the top slots, but that is the exception, not the rule, and as a new exception it is untested, and therefore a bit untrusted until more data have come out.

Five point harneses that fit older children can be found here: http://www.car-safety.org/basics.html Go down to Front-Facing and Specialty Models. These are seats that are for older/taller/heavier kids.

I wish I'd been warned that I was going to ball my eyes out! We were planning on moving our soon to be 4 year old into a booster when the baby grows out of her infant carrier, but now I think that we'll reconsider and get a bigger 5 point harness for him.

the policies that maximum states have accompanied is that a newborn could use a booster seat until they're 4' 9" or 80 kilos. in the experience that your newborn is only 60 kilos yet is 4' 9", then you certainly may be waiting to competently use the motor vehicle's seatbelt. yet whilst (s)he remains decrease than 4' 9", then you certainly could nevertheless proceed to apply a booster seat for cover applications if no different reason. sit down your newborn interior the seat and place the belt in place & see the place the shoulder strap & lap strap rides. (i'm going to wager that's going to nevertheless experience severe in the two places & in case you're in an collision, your newborn might go through severe injuries- quite in the event that they're decrease than 4' 9")
