I've read up on my stuff...and the MRD-M605 can do 400w at 4ohms which is ideal for the JL sub. But if anyone out there knows more audio then me, please correct me. For example, should I get an amplifier that does more than the sub to be on the safe side?

I was also wondering if anyone else out there has a W6 and has picked an Alpine amplifier to go with, if so, what have you got?

Thanks...

If the Alpine MRD-M605 isn't the one to go for...which Alpine should I buy? By the way, I'm in search for an Alpine mono.

What you need to understand is that the W6v2 is a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. That means it's not a 4-ohm sub; it can be an 8-ohm sub or a 2-ohm sub. Therefore the MRD-M605 isn't really a good amp for it; it's overpowered for a single sub, underpowered for a pair.

If you're just running one sub, then the Alpine MRP-M450 is a perfect match. If you plan to run two of these subs, then it's tougher to find a good match in an Alpine amp, but you could just run a second MRP-M450 for the second sub. It's a nice amp for the price.

that amplifier is 300 watts x 1 at 4 ohms (600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)

the speakers are dual 4 ohms 2 together can be wire at
4 ohms you get 300 from amplifier
or 1 ohm you get a lot of smoke from amplifier

wrong amplifier

if you still want to go with a mono block amplifier go with two alpines one per woofer
good luck

JL Audio will sound better than the alpine as its going to give you all the watts it says not like the other brands that will only give you half. JL Audio is design for competition so if i was you ill go with JL AUDIO any day.

i currently have this amp fitted. i took my car in to have this amp and an alpine sub fitted but when i went to pick up the car they told me the sub had been delivered damaged so they paired it up with a mtx ported sub until the new one arrived. when i heard it there was no way i was swapping back, i paid the difference and kept it.really worth looking at the mtx thunder range, they really are the dogs bollocks

I can tell you now you won't be dissapiontted with Alpine. It's a true 600 watts with minimal distortion.
