"When the innocent-looking red thing you swallowed with your kung pao chicken turns out to be a pepper with 350,000 Scoville units (in layman's terms: Ouch!), your first impulse is to reach for a glass of water. Don't. “That just spreads the heat around,” says Shawn Theriot, a quality-assurance manager and food technologist for McIlhenny Company, the maker of Tabasco Sauce. Instead, “eat a lot of bread or rice,” says Chuck Subra, chef at LaCôte Brasserie, in New Orleans, home of notoriously spicy Cajun food. Or try dairy products, like milk, sour cream, ice cream, yogurt, butter, or cheese — the softer the better, says Theriot."

The most common thing to drink is milk. DON'T drink water because water just spreads the spiciness around. I guess you can also eat bananas and sugar too.

Any dairy products will work such as milk, ice cream, yogurt, cream etc. The milk product displaces the capiscan which is what causes the burning. It will not hurt to swallow the milk. Things like water, soda, beer etc does not work
Enjoy!

I saw in a very reliable movie that mustard and ketchup works. I think it had jim carey in it....
But seriously milk. make sure to spit it out instead of swallowing it. Good Eats says that in some cases it could make the burning move down into your throught. Ouch.

Eating ice cream is the best! Drink a little milk with it and you've got it totally taken care of.

Do not drink water, that just doesn't work and will carry the spice around your mouth. Drinks that have sugar in them like juice will help, and also so will dairy products like milk.

Milk is good. Water usually just spreads the spicyness around in your mouth.

Definitely milk, or you can go with a spoonful of sour cream. Water usually won't help at all.
