Vista does not have nearly as many flaws as some people would lead you to believe. As for compatibility, the simplest things is to go to the manufacturers website of your printer, sound card, video card, scanner, etc. and check to see if they have Vista drivers available, and do this BEFORE installing Vista. People install Vista, go to download a driver, find out it isn't available, and then end up having to reinstall XP. You can go back, but if you use an upgrade version, it will deactivate your current XP license, which means reactivating it, and that can be a pain. So it is best to find out about the drivers, and if they are all available, install Vista and give it some time, it is different so you will have to adjust to it, but don't do like a lot of people and use it for 5 minutes, decide you hate it, and uninstall it.

I have used Vista and gave up on it because my printers would not work. Other stuff wont work with Vista either, like sound cards, applications, video cards etc. Yes, you can go back to XP, but you may have activation hassels, and driver problems with XP also, especially if you changed hardware. Best is to forget Micorosoft, and get an easy to use, secure, stable, free, open source OS like www.kubuntu.org.

vista is awesome in my opinion. It is best to make sure you have all RECOMMENDED requirements before upgrading though.
Major differences ive found are, looks better, easier to use, much faster search command, alot safer, cool games, tons of new features.
Of course since it is new, there are some flaws, but not enough to stop me from using it so far. The "flaws" are getting fixed every day.
Yes, you can always go back to xp.
Best Wishes!
