In Matthew 1: verse 1, I read.--"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." And after that verse comes a long line of "begats" until we come to verse 16, that reads: "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

if Joseph was not the natural father of Jesus, but only the husband of Mary, as Matthew 1:16 says, then how come Matthew 1, 1 to 16 is "the ORIGIN of Jesus Christ," ?

. This genealogy establishes Jesus’ claim to the throne of David through his adoptive father Joseph. This is not His blood lineage through Mary, but His legal lineage through Joseph. The Gospel of Luke provides Jesus’ blood lineage through Mary.

Notice that it does not say that Joseph was the father of Jesus, but he was "the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ".

Because it was prophesied that the Messiah would come from the lineage of David. Matthew is writing to the Hebrews and it important that they understand that Jesus does fulfill that prophecy.

Luke on the other hand, traces the lineage through Mary...who can also be traced back to David. But Luke was writing to the Greeks.

The Hebrews did not recognize the lineage of a woman. So, Matthew uses Jesus' earthly father.

There are two lineages in the New testament one of Joseph and on for Mary both decedents of David. I believe Marys in Luke.

Apostle Paul also noted that Jesus was a descendant of David: "Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh (Romans 1:3). Since a man born of a virgin and a holy ghost has no mortal father, it is impossible that Jesus was the biological son of Joseph who descended from David. Thus, Jesus' birth could not have fulfilled the David prophecy unless Mary, his mother, was descended from David

Dear Bing Bang:

Your observation is correct, however if you read Doctor Lukes lineage, after they reach David, there are two different paths. One through Mary and the other is Matthew.

The Bible is very patriarchial, so the Jewish tax collector would trace through the male side, Joseph.

You couldn't fool Dr. Luke, he knew Mary was the real blood lineage, so he traces through Mary.

Interestingly, in Lukes lineage, there are exactly 77 generations from God/Adam... to Jesus.

In the Jewish lineage, there are exactly 40 generations from the son of Abraham to the son of God.

These numbers (7740) are factored when you break the hidden code in the only part of the Bible that says you can not understand it until the "end of the days."

That code was closed until now because we are facing very troubluous times. Check it out at: www.revelado.org/revealed.htm

If you understand Jewish believes, they say that generation come through the offspring of the women--Mary is the Mother of Jesus

2 John 1:1 says That the (CHRIST) is the SON of the Father (I AM)

Therefore Christ came in the human animal called Jesus (Yahshua) meaning saviour

Because Joseph married Mary of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Joseph did not deny his responsibility as the man of the house to help bring up Jesus Christ, he took his place as husband to marry Mary and as an earthly father figure to Christ.

Think of it as a reverse adoption, Jesus adopted Joseph as his father. With the adoption comes his membership in the lineage of Joseph's father's fathers.

There are two genealogies of Jesus in the Bible and no two are alike and no Christian can say that the one is from the father (Joseph) and one from the mother (Mary), because the Bible says that both is from Joseph. (reference below) Luke 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, Matthew 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. What amazes the Muslims is that Chistiandom gives a genealogy to a man that got no genealogy. And to rub salt into the wounds the Bible puts down in that genealogies names Phares and Zara, children of incestuous relationship between Juda and his daughter-in-law from Thamar. (Genesis 38:15-18) Luke 3:33 Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda, Matthew 1:3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; Hint: No wonder George Bernard Shaw said (of the Bible): "They must ban this book or keep it under lock and key"

In Luke Chapter 3 there is the blood line of Mary, If you compare it to the blood line of Joseph you will see that it coincides quite a bit, showing that Jesus was of the bloodline of David.

Go back again and look. Mary was also from the line of David. Unfortunately in those days when the scriptures were written, where the woman came from was not important so it was not put into that specific text.

Being a father didn't always mean being the biological father. If a man died leaving his widow childless, his brother was expected to marry the deceased brother's widow and the first child born to the marriage would be considered the deceased brothers' child. Your brother to the Hebrews was any male relative. Suppose the nearest male relative was your third cousin twice removed. That would mean your genetic genealogy is not the same as your official genealogy. They did not view a genealogy exactly like we would today.
