I'm about top redecorate my mothers kitchen for her and it is a very large room. The problem is it has wall paper on all the walls. For most of the other rooms I used a wall paper steamer, but this room is so big and it would take forever to steam all of it off. if that's what i HAVE to do, so be it. But I wanted to know if there was an easier way to cover up or peel off wall paper.

By the way... I know you can judt "pain over" it, but that's tacky. Are there other ways of going about it?

Thank you!

Most paper used in the past 20 yrs is vinyl, if you can take your finger nail and pick at the seam and pull that top layer of vinyl off your all set, pull it off and now the paper backing is left, use hot water as hot as you can stand it and put it in a cheap garden sprayer and spray the paper backing that was left, soak it up good and you know by now to put a drop cloth or a sheet on the floor to absorb some of the water that's going to run off the wall. Paper tigers and scoring the paper if not done correctly you end up with scored sheetrock resulting in having to skim coat your walls, take your time and it will come off . Make sure you get all the glue residue off for a good looking paint job, Good luck Les the painter

The difficulty involved with removing wallpaper depends on several issues:

The type of wallpaper
Whether or not the walls were properly sized before applying
The application technique

I remove wallpaper for a living and there are many tricks to "easing the pain". Wallpaper steamers are a godsend, but I generally only use them as a last-ditch effort if all else fails. As you note, they can be very time-consuming.

You can find some simple instructions for painlessly removing wallpaper at my website:

There are easy step-by-step instructions there, including the necessary tools. I wish you good luck with your project. With luck, you won't need the steamer.

We use a tool called a paper tiger. It will cut through the paper and allow vinegar water to penetrate behind the pape and loosen the glue.

It will take some time but what can you do? Good luck

this is what I do- get a bucket of hot water and a mop- mop the walls and scrape an X pattern on the wallpaper and mop again. Use your wallpaper scraper to scrape off. Use a sharp blade- change it frequently.
Get some friends to help, and have pizza for them.
