I am Catholic. I had a maternal grandmother who was Presbyterian. The family moved to a small community in Texas that had only 2 churches, not Presbyterian. Ministers from both churches paid a call on the family but one of the ministers made disparaging comments about the other church. After he left my grandmother said," I can tell you one thing, we are not going to his church."
I heard a priest tell about a family in East Texas who became Catholic. What had impressed them is they knew a Catholic family that never had any unkind thing to say about another's faith. Shouldn't we all realize that our comments sometimes reflect on us and on our religion.

Yes whe we degrade others we hurt ourselves. People with low self-esteem and Christians who cant lead by their lives resort to putting others down. Lift one another up is the way of the scripture.

We all should realize the consequences of our actions in all aspects of our lives, and your concern of religion is no exception. The way I see it this issue is not about the building you worship in, but why you attend the service to begin with. If you look to and follow the man/woman in the pulpit rather than the spirit of God you will be forever disappointed. Go to your place of worship for the right reason to worship God in the presence of other believers, and if your unhappy with the place in which you are doing this find one you feel comfortable in as long as they don't teach in falt with the truth.

Perhaps the question we should ask ourselves is "how much do we know about religion?" The Catholic family you refer to is only one family in a very large Christian denomination, and I'm sure you will find several in each religion. The Christian faith is too often judged by its followers rather than its origin which is Jesus Christ (son of man). If everyone followed the foot steps of Jesus we wouldn't be trying to break up individual church families, but would be joining together in fellowship, and inviting others to join in celebrating our God. Separate denominations are started because of the different members choosing to interpret the Bible to there comfort. The truth is written very clear in the New Testament, but not enough people actually choose to read it, and as one who has taken the time to read it from cover to cover I have come to the conclusion that Jesus Christ couldn't be clearer. He stands for love, Forgiveness, and clean living.

So what I say to believers & non believers alike is this;

Believe what you will, and I won't judge you, but before you judge me, and gossip about others know what you are talking about, and more importantly for yourself know what and why you believe the way you do.

Jesus was put to death without committing a crime, and could have walked free if he would have simply agreed with the right people. Ironically the Old Testament teaches about Christ, and foretells the outcome of his life. Why would he have suffered what he did knowing the result if he where not telling the truth? How would it benefit him in death if he where not for real?
Now let's consider another biblical figure named Paul. He was born a Roman citizen which anyone who knows history realizes was very significant in that time. Roman citizens had it made as far as freedom, stature, and wealth. With that said what did Paul have to gain by following, and teaching about Jesus Christ if his teachings where not true? Why would Paul choose prison, ridicule, and beatings over the comforts of Rome if he didn't really witness what he claims?

For the rest of the story I say read the Bible, and you will understand, but it's up to you to choose the life you lead. After all life unfolds according to the choices we make.

Absolutely. I have often thought that many of the Q's and A's on this site can be very disrespectful. Some peoples answers, even to sincere questions, can be very unnecessarily harsh.

Sorry, but if someone wants my respect, then they have to earn it. Blaspheming my Savior, mocking God, and insulting my brothers and sisters in Christ don't quite cut it in that area.

God gave us intellectual abilities, and He expects us to use them. I try not to be insulting or over the top, but I'm also not going to sit back and pretend that it's OK to blaspheme and mock God.

Of course they do. Priests and pastors are sometimes too involved into their rituals and traditions that they get sidetracked. We need to return to God's word and only that and do what Jesus told us to do.

Sure.
There will be many Catholoics in Heaven
There will be many Catholoics in Hell
There will be many Protestants in Heaven
There will be many Protestants in Hell

It's all about Jesus!
May the Lord richly bless you.
