In order to legally move to and work in or study in Canada, you must go through the Immigration process, which takes on average 1-3+ years, and costs around $1,200 in application fees and associated costs.

Comprehensive information, application forms, and instructions can be downloaded from:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/

The various classes of immigration are outlined here:

For the skilled worker class, a self assessment to determine eligibility is available here:

Hey there! I'm an American who just immigrated to Canada. I'm married to a canadian-and have been waiting for my permanent resident card for a couple months- If you want to live here and your not married to a canadian -Id suggest trying to get a work permit. Usually you have to be hired by a company in Canada and they will get your paperwork done in about 3 months- but you can only work for that company- my work permit took about a year to get but I can work anywhere for 2 years while I'm waiting for my resident card- if you want to live here permanently you need to apply for residency- and hve someone sponsor you- usually family- but a work place can i think. go to cic.gc.ca- they have lots of info- and id suggest getting a lawyer it makes it so much easier. Cause its a huge process.

There are no restriction to moving, living, and working there. Getting citizenship is another matter.

I have a friend who moved to Toronto, and has been there, working for about 10 years, now. She is still an US citizen.

if you have no degree, do you have a trade?

Canada is experiencing excellent growth and requires skilled labour.

Go to the website listed below and call the embassy or consulate nearest you.

Also you do need a visa to work here, if you do not have the correct paper work, we will deport you.

Good luck.

Claim refugee status. Say you are being harassed and threatened and if you go back they will kill you. Not only will you be allowed to stay, you will probably get a government job.
