I use Bible Gateway a lot and there are many different translations of the bible. If you want one that is easy to understand I would recommend The Message. If your question is more about you wanting to know more about Christianity and don't know where to start with the bible I would suggest that you try the gospel of Luke which is in the New Testament (most bibles have an index of books in the front) Hope this helps

At the moment I am writing this,
I just checked the last post which refers you
to the best this lady has ever found
and claims is free but except for the invitation to join
I found nothing free and every bible was quite costly.
Why don't you simply accept one freely
from the witnesses the next time they come knocking
as I suspect they'll gladly leave you one.
I happen to have dozens of bibles and love them all
and the New Translation, which I also have
is the finest and easiest to read
and it doesn't have to make a pile of explanations
in the "preface" as others had to do
as an attempt to save themselves from the warnings
given in it such as in the book of Revelation
(last page of the Bible) to anyone who dared change,
add or take away a word from the original Scriptures,
which the majority did to please their own god
when told to skip God's name and replace it
with 'titles' of all sorts, mainly "Lord", "Eternal" and "God" which then reads something like this: "I am God, the God..." instead of the original version which read:
"I am Jehovah, the God..."
Even though the truth is nothing more than common sense, about which translation is best to use,
unless you actually speak Hebrew and Greek, that is)
I find that any bible worthy of that name is fine by me
to assist anyone in coming to a good knowledge
of all of what God wants us to know
so that we can lead better lives.
You see, no one translator couldn't change everything
and if you do the least homework on your own,
you'll find the truth that leads to the true God
using any bible at all.
Everytime you read the word "hell" for example,
remember that it is from the word...
"sheol" in Hebrew and "hades" in Greek
and that the definition of these two words are nothing more
than "the common grave of mankind" or "memorial tomb". That's all.
Furthermore, whatever it is that you ask Him,
your heavenly Father, in relation to His will
and in the name of His son Jesus,
He will certainly provide you with.
So the moment you sincerely approach Him in your heart, He's already got an angel on his way
to assist you with your prayer. Not unlike dialing 911...
What more can you ever ask for?
You're on the right track
and when you do get your hands on what you are looking for, check out the most important one of all truths,
which proves that God is not a God of too many words...
2 Thessalonians 5:17
and the subject of that Scripture is quoted by Jesus himself
at Matthew 6:9, which is a model or example
of what sorts of things you might wish to pray for
from your heart, which means to say
in silence, spirit and truth
as you find more and more of it by reading
this one and only inspired book of truths, the Bible. Remember that when you pray to Him,
He is the most intelligent life force in the Universe
and that he doesn't take pleasure from anyone
who merely quotes the parrot-like prayers
taken from any false and man-made religion out there today and God Himself knows just how many there are...
May the peace of God that excels all thoughts
be with you always.
Thank you,
Teri

Beginers Bible? I go to the Bible Gateway. If you go to yahoo and type in Bible, the very first link is very easy and it has tons of translations. I would start with the New International Version or one of the more modern translations and vere away from the King James kind of things if you want more of a "beginers" Bible. You can also buy like children's Bibles if you are that worried about it. LOL.

If you don't mind Bibles on your computer - there is a free downloadable source for MANY different translations of the Bible available at:
http://www.e-sword.com
I use it - and it is MARVELOUS!

OR... Do you only want a PHYSICAL copy?
Hmmmmmmmmmm...
Have you ever heard of Christian Pastors from China named Wittness Lee and Watchman Nee? Their parents were Christians and named them - what they thought the wanted their sons to grow up to be... a watchman for Christ and a Wittness for Christ.

These men are often quoted by Paster Charles Stanley.

I went looking for information on them and found that they have completed work on a translation of the New Testement (English) that they have painstakingly sought missing meanings within scripture that are often lost in translation. ...Like the "Amplified" version does.

They offer their "Recovery" New Testement on their site at:
http://www.christianwebsites.org/
(Recovery as in recovered meaning - not the 'Recovery' Bibles sold for AA or NA members.)

They also have a toll-free number:
888-551-0102

I received a copy - and it is interesting. I have Strong's Exhaustive Concordance - so I enjoy going back and hunting down hidden meanings in scripture, myself.

Other locales I have NOT tried..
http://www.usabibles2.com/?id=6764&sub=300786&sitebounce=2
AND
http://www.freebibles.net/

I have a host of different translations of Bible that I have found in Flea Markets, Dollar Stores, you name it... Look locally... You may find many Bibles are available to you.
Many Churches have Bibles saved to give to people... Talk to churches in your area... You may get one THAT way!

Peace dear one! Good luck!!
