Absolutely. I also agree with Laurie. Religion, along with politics,is one of those topics that people tend to have very strong opinions about. It's also a topic that many avoid when speaking face to face. You will run into a few people who are actually that outspoken in real life, but for the most part, I do believe that their avatar gives most people a little more confidence than they normally have.

It depends....I think some people are rude for this reason, some are probably just that way when out from behind a computer. I think for the most part, I type what I would say (most of the time I'm not trying to be rude, it does come off that way sometimes.) But, besides family and close friends, I've never had to have conversations like what takes place in here. Most people at work don't talk about religion....we know better than that.

To a degree, absolutely. Part of the issue is that you are also dealing with a very large population and discussing a very "hot topic" so to speak. Religion, to many people, is a very personal subject and can elicit very emotional and sometimes heated exchanges and this forum offers a freedom to respond in ways that would certainly not be accepted or tolerated in the normal social arena. You then also have to factor in that you are dealing with an incredibly wide range of people - all different backgrounds, all different ages, all different experiences - and often these will agonizingly differ from your own.

I'm an open book, however people choose to perceive me is their thing... I know my intent is not to be rude, but somehow, just because I exist, to many I'm a serious thorn in their side.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that there are people who take offense to everything, and look for bad where it may not even exist, so that when you say "have a nice day" with the sweetest of intent, someone's always going to perceive it as rude, sarcastic and whatnot. I'm paraphrasing him btw... I don't have the actual quote on hand.

You are correct.
Car companies have invented a method for drivers to communicate with other drivers.
A surrvey was done.
An electronic information board on the back of the car was the most popular.
Communicating with everyone within 3 kilometers was second choice.
Third choice was communicating with individuals directly.
What does that tell you?

Frankly, I speak here very much the way I do in public.
Anyone can click on my 360 link and see my picture, know who I am, become my friend. I have nothing to hide, and I do not feel that this forum is completely anonymous to those who choose to share so much here.
I try to treat folks decently here and IRL, and if I disagree, I use the same degree of sarcasm regardless of the setting.

Yes I sure do...I think on here they can say whatever they want and know the worst thing is maybe they loose an account...there are lots more so that is not really a biggie.
I am not sure if they are at work or school or at home...but I wonder sometimes...

maybee rude-er
i would say they vent the same way to others in a social context that do not see eye to eye with them.
i would also say that most of the rude responses are kinda funny too & glad for this context for the venting ( communication ???? ) to take place
perhaps if we all could laugh at the funny stuff each of us holds to things would get better.

Yes, people are bold when hidden behind a computer screen. I've shown my husband somethings that have been said and he would pop someone in the mouth if they said that to either of our faces. Smarty p above me said it right.
I seriously doubt someone would threaten me to my face yet I have received emails as such.(and I have never emailed one person here).

I talk to people here just the same as I would anywhere else, sometimes people are just being rude and sometimes some people just can't take a honest answer.
