Tradition to get smashed? Ok?
If I were u I would tell them upfront that I do not intend to have any drinks. It would greatly lessen the chances of you getting drunk at all.
Also, you are doing what most people do. You have drawn a line in the sand. On one side is Christian and on the other sidie it's not. Many try to see how close they can get to the line with crossing over. Do u understand? See what we are suppose to do is take off our sandals and run in the opposite direction of the line. Instead of how close can I get it should be how far away can I get.
This is just me, but i would not even put myself in the position of having a drink. Once u have two or three, there is no telling when you'll actually stop. We start out with good intentions and end with bad consequences.
Thanx,
Chris

I wasn't aware of any "law" regarding having to drink alcohol on ones 21st birthday. The fact is, that drinking is not a sin, but getting drunk is. God knows the reasons for that and so do many people. Say you have one drink. Would this be your first alcoholic drink, being you're not supposed to drink alcohol until you're 21? Then, one drink could do it to you. Why live with the worry and temptation? What if the friends you go out with drink more than you? I know how it is. I wasn't a christian when I was your age and learned my lessons the hard way. Are your friends Christians? That's important too. If they are, then I would hope they'd not drink either.
There are many ways to celebrate ones birthday. Pray about it and let God lead the way. You'll have a great time.

Listen to your conscience - the Bible speaks about the appearance of evil, and you could be a stumbling block to someone.
The very fact that you have asked this question, shows that you are questioning whether or not you should.
Let conscience be your guide - seek to glofify God in all you do.
Romans 12 says: Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing His will really is.
You can enjoy this time without drinking alcohol. You don't need alcohol to enjoy yourself. Use your God given creative mind, and ask some people at your church how they celebrated their 21st birthdays.
God bless you!

If you have decided to go out. Then pick something else to drink rather than alcohol that you like. I don't know who your sister's friend is, but you have to be careful of the company you keep and their influence. Sometimes, in those types of settiings, it's easy to get swayed by other people. I am just going to say do what ever promotes holiness. Especially before those you are going out with. Some people may take your drinking alcohol as a smear on Christianity and Christ, even if is only one or two drinks. Something to think about.

God says drink but do not get drunk. The "tradition" of getting drunk on your 21st is dangerous as well as foolish but having one or two is not a problem. Enjoy your night and have a happy birthday.

If you trully do not want to dissappoint GOD OR YOURSELF, you will ignore tradition and do something else for fun..Why put alcohol in your blood, and cause your eyes to become red over nothing..I always stood out amongst my friends because i refused to have premaritial sex, and did not drink and get high..Why don't you go and have your nails and toenails done..Where fake eye lashes, flood your face with pretty makeup instead, and go to restaurant and eat your favorite meal while you are all dolled up..You can still laugh and have fun without alcohol..This is your day, and you should do what make you happy..They can do what make them happy on there day..I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU !! I WOULD LIKE TO BE THE FIRST TO WISH YOU.. A GREAT HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY !!!

A couple of matters here, first off what did Jesus turn the water to? Wine! No you don't have to get drunk, personally I can't stand the taste of most alcoholic beverages. Tell your friends you just want a drink or two, or none at all, your choice. If they can't accept that your faith is important to you then you really need to question who your friends are.
Happy Early Birthday!

Drinking alcohol for most people (doing it legally) is not a sin by itself. Getting drunk is. A word of caution; the question/comment sounds like you have not drank alcohol before. As a result your body may not be accustom to it; so you may get 'drunk' sooner. Definitely; do not drive during or for a few hours afterwards if you can avoid it!!! Further, there are a few people that for various reasons should not drink at all. I presently do not know if you are one of them or not.

Although I don't celebrate birthdays, my husband did take me out for a drink when I turned 21. No big hullabaloo, no falling down drunk, no vomiting (ew!)
Just a couple of drinks (a sangria and a Corona) at happy hour and I was on cloud nine :D
Drinking alcohol is fine as long as: a) it's done legally and b) it's done in moderation. Jesus drank wine at a wedding; I think it's perfectly acceptable for you to have a glass or two at dinner :0)
*Just make sure that someone else is driving you and your friends home.*
A sober driver is always a good decision :0)

The big deal about turning 21 is - or at least used to be - that it was traditionally the age at which you became legal - you became an adult.
One of the responsibilities of being an adult is making your own decisions, based on what you believe and what you want, not letting others make decisions for you.
If you can't decide what you want to do for your own 21st birthday celebration...
