Excellent question!
Religion is man made. Religion is trying to live up to rules, or working out a way to please God, such as going to church, saying the right things etc. But the Bible clearly states that we can never reach God's standard, for we have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard.
Christianity is having a living personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is about a person sincerely and humbly coming to God and asking God to forgive them for all their sin. Then to make a conscious decision to turn away from all they know to be wrong, and live life with God in the driving seat of their lives. The Christian life is an exciting life.
For I know the plans I have for you says God, plans for good and not for evil, plans to give you a future and a hope.

Religion is a broad term, meaning the following of system of rules, generally with some divine bases.
The Big Three; Jeudism, Christianity and Islam. All three different religions follow the laws of the Talmud (sp?) or the Old Testiment as handed down from Forefather of Jacob (Isreal). Christianity as a whole added the teachings of Jesus. Muhammed was given different teaching, directly from Alla, but also suggested that his people follow the teaching of his fellow prophets, like Jesus.
Major Pagan religions, ie having nothing to do with the above religions.
Buddhism and Hindu
Buddha was an Indian prince who's mother died in child birth. His father was told that the prince would either be the greatest king the world had ever seen or be the greatest prophet, depending on how much pain and suffer he witnessed. The king kept Buddha in a guilded cage, seeing no pain, sickness of death, hoping to make his son the great king. As soon as Buddha learned about the ills of the world he left in search of how to fix them. Buddha tried all the religions and paths offered in India but none worked for him. Finally he sat under an Arcadia tree and meditated. Through this he reached Enlightenment (the trials and tribluations he went through are too numbered to mention here). Those how follow His path and teachings are called Buddhist.
Hindu is another Indian religion that is polytheist, Many gods and goddesses, from a single family. It is very confusing and I haven't studied it that much.
Paganism (us hippy wack jobs )
Most of the people who say that they are Pagans believe in some sort of pre-Christian religion, along with all of the gods and goddesses there in. The old gods of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Celtic, Norse, etc. But like in all faiths there are the wack jobs who's families are from no where near Europe and say that they a decended from Irish druids.
OK far more infor than you wanted, sorry. I hope I have helped

Religion is your relation to God or the Gods. Christianity is one branch of religion. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Sikhs, Pagans and others are religious without being Christian.
Think of religion as "automobile" and Christianity as "General Motors". It is one large organization among others. Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox Christians can be Buick, Pontiac and Chevrolet. Ford, Toyota, Chrisyer etc. are other kinds of automobiles.
(Please read this slowly and carefully. I DID NOT say the Chrysler or Ford corporations were not Christian. I was just drawing a comparison.)

Christians are those who believe Jesus is the son of God, that he died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead.
Many of the religions are all Christian based with a few disagreements in minor doctrines etc.
The first and original Christian religion is Catholicism. It was the only Christian religion until the 1500s when Martin Luther caused the Reformation and shattered Christianity into many pieces. On his death bed, he said..."I wanted to get rid of one pope and I created hundreds."

The same as the difference between dogs and dachshunds. You don't think that all dogs are dachshunds just because all dachshunds are dogs, do you? Christianity is a religion, but there are many religions other than Christianity.

Christianity is the religion, or 'way of life' that was taught by Jesus.
There are other teachers.
Many would have you believe that Jesus was the best ....the truth.
But that's for you to figure out.
