Isn't that just a way of putting ones self above you and judging your lifestyle?

I actually had a long-time friend tell me that she was quite sure that we were going to 2 different places when we die but that we could still be friends in the meantime...

I told her she was wrong about the latter part...

What is more amusing is the people that KNOW you are not a believer that they will pray for me, that cracks me up.... but instead of wasting my breath talking to them, I just nod and say have a good day. Or if I'm bored and feel like having some fun telling them that I thank them and hope that Father Darwin reincarnates them in a more evolved living being.

Is annoying to the ppl at work that send me their blessings or prayers, which I also nod and say have a good day.... but there is really good chemistry at work and Im afraid of how they will react if they find out about my beliefs (or lack thereoff). Things are *almost* perfect the way they are.......

Unfortunately... I guess I am a "nonbeliever-in-the-closet"... so much for freedom of religion that this country supposedly has, huh?

No. I don't get offended. I get annoyed. But I'm hardly offended by someone, whom I know is not above me, act like they are. And they can judge all they want... they have no authority to do anything about it except judge. Their words really mean nothing when they do it just so they can stroke their ego. It comes across to me that people like that are insecure... they have to step on someone else in order to feel better about themselves. Seems they don't stop and think about what is causing them to feel such insecurity. Though, I could be wrong... they really could be assholes. I try to give the benefit of the doubt. =)

It totally depends on the spirit in which it was offered. I asked an obnoxious question earlier (PMSing happens), and got a wide variety of responses.

Some were from pseudo-christians offering to pray that my "vitriolic nature" would be healed. That one and others like it were obviously people who either couldn't come up with better putdowns or who were unwilling to show their true faces.

Some others were nice, though. They said it in either a funny way or just a nice way.

I think they are misguided, their lack of intelligent logic offends me. I tell them we don't have any sins, there is no such thing. Sinning being a supposition used to entrap people into feelings of self quilt and accepting the crutch of 'organized' religion.

Each individual has to pray for forgiveness for his or her own sins. Praying for someone else's doesn't help that other person.

I just tell them I'll cast a spell in their name in return ; )

They don't offend me but I do feel sympathy for them. They don't have a CLUE about the teachings Jesus or the divine.

Yeah, it's a guilt trip of subtlety, however, I have never had anyone say that to me.

Guess they figure I'm Beyond hopeless :-)

It keeps them off the street and out of bars.

Depends on who is saying it.

I have Christian friends who say it out of genuine concern and love for me.

Then there are those who use it as a put-down. I disregard what they have to say anyway.
