now, I may sound spoiled or ungrateful, but my sister gets whatever she wants, anyways I would like to have an American car, cause I really do not like Honda, Toyota anything that is foreign. To me they look like toys and that can break real easily. My sister has an envoy and she had ask my dad can she get it and he said no so she talked about it all the time and complained about too, so he brought it for her and I said that’s not fair cause what ever I want I can't get it, but I understand that I am 16 but still. He brought it for her and she has a job, so right now her old 2003 grand prix is sitting in the backyard, it was nothing wrong with it, I ask my dad can I have it cause its just sitting here he said no, so plz tell me what’s a good car for me?

Well, first of all, I know that when I was about to get my license, I wanted a really nice car. But that didn't work out, which is actually better. I'm 18 now, and I've had my car for 2 and a half years. It's a 1998 Chevy Lumina. It's kinda ugly, and yeah, it's old, but it seats 6, it's comfortable, and it's mine. The thing is, it doesn't matter how nice the car is, as long as it works. My car may not be the most attractive thing, but when I'm going out with a group of friends, it's always my car that everyone wants to take. It's roomy and comfortable, and we can cram more people into it than most of the nicer cars. And, even though I've been driving for about 4 years, I still manage to back into pillars and such, so it's nice to have a car that isn't so nice and new that you have to freak out every time something happens to it. I drove into one of the collumns in the parking garage at my apartment three days ago, but it wasn't a big deal because my car isn't 100 thousand dollars. And, if you ask your parents to get you a used car that isn't super new, they'll be more likely to get it for you. I know this goes against all beliefs held by 16 year old drivers, but it's sooooo worth it to you to get something that's not as new as you'd like. It'll work out better, I promise!! Good luck!

I suggest you consult Consumer Reports current (April 2007) edition in the library or or on the newsstand. You may be surprised to find that Toyotas and Hondas do very well across the board. In any case, if you don't accept that, the edition will tell you which American cars do well.

As a father with 2 driving age... get a job, offer to pay for the car... offer 10 cents a mile to cover wear and tear and insurance; you buy the gas. If it makes sense to your dad, ask if you can use the Grand Prix under the terms... see what he says.

I would recommend a small SUV such as a Dodge Durango, or Ford Explorer, GM Envoy.
But you know, a small car such as a Chevy Tracker (built by Suzuki) is reliable and safe. Or a Ford Escape too. These little are good for gas mileage.
