What would be a good cash car to buy if you have about $4000, and you want something luxurious? I've head that Lexus LS400 runs good even after many many miles. I've also seen some nice 90's Cadillacs with low miles. Any ideas?

What's your definition of "luxurious"?

A Lexus might be reliable (and they are) but I wouldn't count on repairs being as cheap as most 4000 dollar cars. For example, a Lexus LS400 brake master cylinder runs about twice that of a Mazda Miata (my benchmark for cheap car parts). Also, luxury cars are often more complex, and thus take more time (and usually money) to repair.

I'd suggest looking for Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Crown Vic/Town Car/Grand Marquis, or a Thunderbird/Mark VIII/Cougar. They're reliable, roomy, and comfortable. Also, there are early 90s BMWs that you could afford. 3 series parts for that era are pretty cheap, actually. (Not Crown Vic cheap, but better than that Lexus.)

You might find a Hyundai XG300 around the top end of your price range. Not as reliable as a Town Car, but pretty good, and quite comfortable.

Your best bet, though, is a RWD Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, no question.
