I am a Christian as well. I'm asking you all to join me in a peaceful effort to end retorts of anger to non-believers and hecklers. Our Lord dealt with being heckled even on the cross. So instead of anger we shall give blessings. When heckled, let us all answer from now on by saying God Bless You! Will you all join me? Praise God!

Wolfeblayde, God Does However Love Everyone! When He spoke of vipers and hypocrites, Jesus was referring to the Pharisees and Saducees, who were supposed to be priests not non-believers. Remember, He came not to save the saved, but those who did not know Him. He died for all! God Bless You!

Wolfeblayde, at least we agree we are Christians, and you have validated some points. However, my whole struggle here is to at least be civil to other human beings. You know as well as I that we serve an awesome and MERCIFUL God, Amen! Let He who is without sin cast the first stone!

Hi Semper Fi 83! My husband is a retired USMC Master Sergeant, and we're Christians, too.

I agree with you. Meekness is power under control. Turning the other cheek is not an act of weakness, but a show of confidence in God that He is in control. Striking out in anger shows a lack of trust in God.

I think there are ways to give blessings without directly saying "God Bless You!" I don't know how long you've been hanging out in this section, but I've found that many non-Christians see offers to pray for them as very insulting, and I'm not sure that some of them wouldn't see "God bless you" as sort of a euphemism for something insulting.

I say, let's just take every opportunity to be respectful and kind. After all, when Jesus spoke to the woman at the well, that's how He treated her, even though she was an adulteress, a Gentile, and shunned by her own people. The people Jesus "put in place" were not unbelievers, but religious leaders who were more concerned with their privilege and power than with holiness or the spiritual well-being of others.

I'm happy to join with you in extending grace and love wherever it can be shown.

Sorry, but that's just not going to happen. Jesus had no qualms about telling it like it is. . .I mean, "Brood of vipers" and "You hypocrites" are not exactly the most diplomatic forms of address known to man.

If someone is acting like the north end of a southbound horse and blaspheming my Lord and Savior or insulting my fellow Christians, I am not about to sit back and let them get away with it. God didn't give us intellectual abilities for us to let them sit there and gather dust.

God doesn't bless those who mock Him and blaspheme His Son. So I guess you'll just have to count me out on this one.

Edit:

You're right, and God does love us all. But He is also a God of justice and righteousness, and He Himself set a pretty high penalty for blasphemy. The blasphemer was to be stoned to death, as I recall, which would suggest that He doesn't take it lightly.

I'm simply not willing to bury my head in the sand and pretend that it's OK for people to say vile things about God and my Lord Jesus. That's the same thing as condoning evil, as far as I'm concerned.

Edit #2:

Technically, we don't disagree on anything. I am all for being civil and treating others with respect. I can do both of those things and still deliver an honest and forceful rebuttal. What I cannot do is bless someone who curses God -- not without direct permission from the Holy Spirit.

So I think we're back to square one again. :-)

i am not a christian but i will support you. In fact, I think many people share your attitide. however, some people are so touchy. you will have to work on all the Jerry Falwell's and Pat Robertson's of the world. the people who say they are working for God but just lash out at people instead.

Certainly this is a very gracious idea - however I think the only thing we can do is be responsible for our own behaviour and demonstrate a gentle nature in responding to questions. Hopefully then others may be challenged by this.

I am with you. Not necessarily word for word, hehe, but in action. Thank you for making a stand, many will be with you. Blessings in the Light of Christ!

Yes, I agree.

Do not be baited into losing your cool...it only makes hecklers feel powerful. Pray for them, love them...remember God l loves them.
