Sometimes people are genetically predisposed to have larger bottom halves. The way to trim fat without building bulky muscle is to work out for long periods with low amounts of resistance. Many reps, low weights. Cardio is good too, but again, don't add any resistance that you can avoid. Sometimes, the answer is building up your upper half if it is significantly smaller than your lower half. You can do pushups, pullups, weight machines that work your chest and lateral muscles, etc. You may find that building the top half will make you look balanced and better overall.
If you're genetically predisposed to have large thighs, calves and rear, they will not shed the weight as quickly as other parts of you, so weight loss may not help the problem. Just get balanced by building the top (higher resistance) and trimming the bottom (with low resistance, many reps). Cheers!

Well unfortunately, if you were born with big calves and thighs, then there is not much you really can do about it. Some women are just made that way, myself included. I would try an exercise that really targets that area, but it won't make your calves or your thighs model-size " small". Riding a bike really does a number, and really targets the thighs and the calves. I hope this helps.

Calf, ankle and thigh size, shape and length can be hereditary. Bodies come in all types and sizes based on genetics. As a dance teacher in the Public School system care had to be taken in making sure that students avoided bad habits such as purging, and crazy starvation diets that are bad for health just for the sake of the classical long, thin body. Believe me it was very difficult at times to explain to parents, "your child has the body that she has. We will work with that." Sometimes there were very incredible results because of the exercises we did daily. We can also be forever vigilante in our dietery habits. Exercise does change and reshape any body to a point. Large ankles and calves have gotten a bad reputation among dancers. I always refer the dancers to photographs of the Martha Graham Contemporary Dance Company. Martha was under 5'. She selected small compact dancers. Many of them were Asain and Black. Those magnificent, muscled calves, ankles and thighs become very attractive when trained. Gymnastics is also an activity or sport of small beautifully sculpted bodies. So my answer is to workout with classical stretches of the entire body. Join a gym and use weights, stair master or climber, walk and ride bikes. Use universal equipment that requires you to do a squat in a reclined position. That is only one of many that really works the hip and thigh area. Explore the many different choices in equipment that aides in the isolation of muscles and body parts. Use the equipment to train yourself to isolate the muscles you wish to change, and go to work. Personal trainers are available in most gyms. If you have a health plan, nutritionists at your local hospital are covered. Having professionals for help and support along the way is very important. If you really want to change your lower body, Workout!

Run baby run.
Do squats about twice a week, with or without weights.
Calf raises are very good exercises and can be done every day.
Spend some time once a week on a bicycle, stationary or real. (20 to 30 minutes).
Do some leg curls about twice a week.
And don't forget to stretch......

It's probably just your self-perception.
Men hardly ever look at their lower body and go "ew:. A man's attitude is "oh well".

It really depends, changing your eating habits and incorpporating exercise into your daily routine are good places to start.
This will work for the thighs, some individuals have large calf muscles, if your calves are muscular and not fat you really will not be able to reduce there size..

Unfortunately walking will only make the muscles in your calves & thighs larger. Weight lifting will do the same. So you have to figure out how much of the size is due to muscle and how much is due to fat. Usually a combination of stretching & exercise will help. Some forms of pilates will help.

A lot of people would just say "Workout, eat less, ect" which is definitely the obvious answers but some of us are just too lazy. The best solution for you would just be buying Dance Dance Revolution and the Dance Mat. It works.

do a lot of running, biking, swimming. if you wanna really push yourself, run or bike UPHILL. you could also do cardio kickboxing, cuz that would really STRENGTHEN your legs, as well as your awareness. do squats, as that will also tone up your cheek muscles. sometimes, people with really high metabolisms will turn out having more fat in their lower half of their body. i say cut down on the lipids, and focus on a natural, healthy diet. good luck to you
