Perception of pain varies greatly from person to person. People will come into our shop to get tattoos in the same spot, some will cry and scream, and others will swear it barely hurts.

The most painful spots to get a tattoo are the ribs, wrist, foot, calf/shin, and spine. Basically, anywhere that is basically skin over lots of bone.

any tattoo on the spine i think hurts more than other tattoos. but it's not unbearable or anything. everybody is going to tell you something different. my left shoulder hurt the least of all of my tattoos i think. the rest hurt quite a bit. don't get or not get a tattoo based on whether it is going to hurt or not. if you want one in a certain place, just get it there.

It depends how tolerant you are to pain. it half mental, if you just except the fact you are getting a tattoo and its going to "sting" a little, it will be just that. But if you think of it as a needle spewing ink in your skin painfully, then it will probably hurt.

I have a very large one inbetween my shoulder blades. It didn't hurt me but everyone is different. What doesn't hurt me may hurt you. And vice versa. You will never know unless you try it.

As a side note, anytime you are tattooing over bone, it will hurt worse. If its fat it will hurt less but everyones pain threshold is different.

i've got 4 tattoos and that was the least painful place for me other than my ear (which is cartilage so u cant feel it).
then again, it depends on your pain tolerance. i have a higher than normal pain tolerance.

but seriously, if you want it done there- the pain should be worth it.

It does hurt - but you'll get thru it. I have three. I think the worst one is inside of the ear. Good Luck!!
