But I don't have money for something like that. I told her that I'll have a d.j. and food at home and she can invite all of her friends, but she doesn't say anything. What should I do?

Instead of having a DJ why not have all her friends bring all thier CD'S and have music from the stereo, that way you have more money for other things? You can make a really nice dinner or even BBQ for that matter and then have outside games planned, like Volley ball or Horseshoes. God Bless, I hope it's fun!!
PS: If you have a discount grocery store near you like Winco or Aldis then shop there to save some Money.

What kind of party is she looking for? Maybe tell her that she needs to be involved in the planning. Give her a budget and help her plan a menu and the D.J. and the decorations. Maybe you could go with something like a Hawaiin theme and have tiki torches and lei's for the guests and have everyone come dressed in Hawaiin clothes. You could go with a fairy tale theme and have a frog on the cake and when you cut into it a picture of Prince Charming and have candles everywhere and fancy (fake plastic) champagne glasses for people to drink out of. Give her some ideas and look on the internet. You can do a lot of cool things with little money and in the end it would be even better than the parties that cost millions because it was something you did together.

I never had a sweet 16, which I wish I really had. Kids these days don't know how to appreciate the little things in life. Her not saying anything sounds like she was expecting something really really big, but maybe if you sit down and show her the expenses of throwing something like that, she'll understand that you can't just kick back and throw money up in the air. Why don't you ask her what she really wants .. Make sure you let her know that you this is an important time in her life, and your trying your best to make it memorable - Maybe you can rent a small hall that you can decorate on your own?!

Sit her down and show her the amount of money that goes out every month for bills. IF you are a mother who has given her the basic necessities and not showered her with "love" by making big ticket purchases, then she'll understand. It's hard to say no but if you explain it to her by being as honest as you can, then it'll be okay.

If you've already explained you can't afford whatever it is she's expecting for her 16th*....but offered a dj..food etc..along with her friends.....and she said nothing*...I would confront her again and ask her......Do you want me to set that up for you or no? I'm not going to throw money away if you're not wanting any of it...tell her you need an answer so you can start arranging that for her. If she doesn't answer.....or says NO........then so be it. She's 16 and needs to start acting like it. GOODLUCK*

In stead of a D.J. rent out like a community center or a cheap place like that and she can have like a mini sweet sixteen ! She can use her own c.d.s and like her IPod with speakers. Hope it helps!

this is a very important day in your daughters life
so do the best you can.
i looked for all the songs i could find for sweet 16
and put them on tape, as far as she knew at first it was all she was getting, and was very happy that i took the effort to do this.after all these years everytime she thinks of 16 or hears a 16 song she thinks of me.
i waited till the day was almost over b4 i gave her the car.
now the cars gone and she never thinks of it.

go out to hang around with her one day..talk to her face to face...tell her u understand about her dreams and wants. But u r helpless and tight on the budget..tell her that u would have to loan money if u throw a party like that..and perhaps for her happiness u would. But it would just come down too hard on u.Tell her that what u r doing for her is probably not much..but the love u have for her can not be measured by money.Talk to her as friends..she'll understand.good luck

I think that is a great idea. You can get really cheap decorations at party city. I would suggest a 50's theme. You can do up your house in diner like decor! Sounds like a blast to me! They could all dress up in poodle skirts!
