find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

Exercise speeds up your metabolism for at least several hours. That's why you'll often hear advice to do it in the morning.

If you don't exercise, and you are not very active, you actually only need 1600 calories per day at your size. Yes, that's right. Nobody in America could possibly manage that few calories per day. I've tried, and it just doesn't work. You will always be hungry.

The only thing I have found is that drinking lots of coffee helps suppress the appetite for a little while. But not enough to eat only 1600 calories a day, sadly.

In college, I switched to an almost entirely vegetarian diet (giant salad bar made it easy), and I lost about 20 lbs. I wish I still had that option, it was great. I had lots of salad and stir fry and I never felt hungry, but still lost so much weight.

Good luck to you.

caffeine, water, the chemical that makes peppers spicy, EGCG (green tea), chewing 5 sticks of gum per day can increase metabolism.

Count your calories. Try and consume the amount of calories that you think you burn on the same day. Eat frequently but less. Usually having a coffee or gum after a meal helps kick start the metabolism.

This tells you how to work out the amount of calories you need to maintain your existing weight! :-)

(The article is written for weight loss - but there is a calculation you can use to figure out calories needed for weight maintenance. This is much more reliable than the online 'calculators' you see around)

Metabolism will be increased with exercise. I can't say exactly how long it will take, as it cannot be really pinpointed, but you should see results quickly if you exercise often.

Hope this helps! :-)

Many say the rule of thumb, is to simply add a zero to your desired weight. EX: You should eat 1400 calories per day to remain at, or get too, 140 lbs. In your case, you should be eating 1440 calories per day. Of course, when doing NO type of exercise, you may even need to shave a little off of THAT number.
