As a Christian and a college student studying to be a teacher, I think that 8th grade is probably a good time to watch it for the first time. I think that it would be an eye-opener for them, to see a good example of what Jesus really went through, and all for them. I think that 8th grade would be the youngest I would go though. And probably more towards the end of the school year.

Why cant they watch what Our Lord went through? I think what Mel Gibson shows is just a shadow of the real ordeal and agony Christ suffered. The kids must learn to compassionate with Our Lord's Passion, meditate on It and live by It.
Get the parents' written approval and go ahead and show the movie to the kids whose parents have given permission.

No, it's rated R for a reason. They can certainly know about the Passion and be taught about what Christ went through.

Mel Gibson's film, even though true in every sense, is still rated R and is too intense for children.

Absolutely not! If you are the teacher, you would be better to ask the parents this first. As a parent I would be very pissed if my child saw this in school without my okay. I had a very hard time watching it, and I'm 32 and pagan. I certainly wouldn't let my kids watch it! Not until they were older and could make that decision for themselves.

Send a letter home to their parents to make sure that none object. The children whose parents do object can sit out of the film.

I personally think that the film is too violent to show to young children. Furthermore the film has definite anti-Semitic undertones which I do not think anybody should be subjected to.

no, I'm am adult an it was to much for me. i did not like the movie. i think everyone looks at things differently and that's the good thing about reading. you can play it out in your mind the way you see it, but when to watch a movie its the was one person sees it. i think it just takes away from the story. some scrips were made for movies and some stories were made to be read and that story should stay in a book.

the end parts are very graphic, while a good movie the rating is above that age group, get permission from the parents first if you are wanting to show them the movie, some of the older movies are still good and not as graphic if you wanted to look into them.

No, it's too cruel. I love the movie.. but for 8th graders.. some of them are probably not exposed to violence.. and the parents might strictly object.

personally, as a 20 year old I still cry, but I think if you let them know its heavy stuff and that it is very sad, then you can let them watch it, but please take breaks... 12-13 year olds are not going to like seeing so much blood and guts all at once
