NASCAR, itself (the organization), is the biggest cheater. Not the drivers. Not the crew chiefs. I'm talking about the guys that run NASCAR!
They have turned a great american sport into a drama of sorts. It probably won't be long before NASCAR races will no longer be shown on FOX or TNT. We'll have to tune into Oxygen, Lifetime, or The Women's Channel. Won't that be funny?
NASCAR officials are especially critical of any competitor that openly criticizes the "Big Boy Organization." A few years ago, Tony Eury Sr. made a comment about how NASCAR officials were taking too long to get back to green after cautions at Bristol. Later in that same race, NASCAR accuses Dale Earnhardt Jr. of purposely spinning himself (in one of the turns) so that he could keep himself on the lead lap. The penalties were outrageous. And, the accusation is ridiculous. Who in their right minds would spin themselves out on purpose at Bristol (a half mile track with 42 other cars on the track)? Dale Jr. ended up keeping his mouth shut about the whole deal. Why? Because he knew that by opening his mouth, he was opening the door to further "Big Brother" penalties.

NASCAR plays favorites. Pure and simple. NASCAR has waaay too many rules and often times older drivers are more ata disadvantage because they were in the sport at a time where most of what isn't allowed now was allowed 10 years ago. Crew chiefs want to push the rules to the limit to give their drivers a shot at winning and sometimes go too far. It's obvious that sometimes when there's a minor infraction with one driver, the get penalized a lot of money and 20-50 points, but one of their favorite drivers breaks a rule terribly and they slap them on the wrist. It's one of the things that I hate about the sport, but it happens, and unless you go buy NASCAR and change it to your liking, they're going to do that.

In the case of a driver with a bad history vs. a driver with a clean history, or a rookie vs. a veteran, thats one thing, but when your talking about Jeff Gordon's penalty at Daytona vs. the other 4 driver's penalties at Daytona, Gordon got off too easy. I do belive NASCAR shows some favoritism when it comes to pushing out penalties

The reason is who the driver is. You cant be light on a rookie or someone that has raced only a couple years but a veteran might make a bad move and they go easy on him. It sounds like you might be talking about Biffle. If so, the reason was he didnt really break a rule since there wasnt one for the low height at Bristol and it wasnt an advantage but it was a disadvantage to him.

i know i'm going to get lip for this but i don't care, last year johnson didn't get fined or docked for points for cheating at daytona last year, but this year look at all of everham got docked, kenseth got docked, and also poor waltrip got the worst of all, and then you had gordon, who got caught also but he didn't get anything but sent back to the track which is wrong, if nascar is trying to set an example, they should punish everyone that gets caught, not just certain ones.
GO KAHNE GO, YOU CAN DO IT!!! YOU HAVE 25 MORE RACES TILL THE CHASE BEGINS TO PROVE TO EVERYONE THAT YOU CAN BE IN THE TOP 12!!!!!!

Money talks B S walks.
NASCAR claims the severity of the penalty is when it takes place(before the race or after the race) so it is their discretion.
That's all I have to say about that.

Some violations are technical, some are driver behavior....obviously, different infractions require different responses. I think they should have more penalties. Keep 'em on their toes.

I don't know I have always wondered that too. Maybe the driver pays NASCAR enough to let them by with cheating.
