I've recently attended a wedding rehearsal and the whole female portion of the bridal party was in BLACK! I thought it might be a ocne in a lifetime thing but as we were leaving the the next wedding setting up to rehearse was in black too! Is it a tradition somewhere that you wear black to the rehearsal?

Nothing wrong w/ wearing black to the rehearsal or the wedding. It's 2007, and traditions and old wives tales have changed. Black is a very slimming color and is even complimentary to some people's skin tones (ever have a great tan, black looks fabulous next to tan skin)

In this day and age, "the little black dress" is a staple in every women's closet. Why? b/c when in doubt, you will never look too over or under dressed in a black dress.

Forget the notion of wearing black to a wedding is bad luck, disrespectful, or too much like a funeral. Give me a break. I'd rather see someone in a formal, sophisticated black dress then a color that's too bold or too tacky. I've been to weddings were people have worn Navy (one of the ugliest and most unflattering colors around) green and even pink.

Black is safe and always in good taste. It's a color that everyone can pull of in style and grace. Plus, black in some ways is the opposite of white. So, I feel that wearing black will actually bring more attention to the bride. Haven't you ever been to a wedding and seen someone in a awful outfit. You spend half the time wondering what they were thinking when they walked out of the house, rather then looking at the bride. How many times can you say that about someone in black.

So, I say go ahead and wear black to a rehearsal and to a wedding.

Depending on where the rehearsal dinner is being held, there typically isn't a dress code. Jeans and tees are fine (if the dinner location is casual) or more dressed up. Who wears white, who wears black, whatever, shouldn't even be an issue.

There is no dress code for a rehearsal. People wore what they would usually wear to a dinner out, which they were probably going to right after the rehearsal

Wearing black to the rehearsal is far from tradition ... but all women should own their favorite "little black dress" and that is probably their safety choice. I'm not saying they should add some color with the accessories, but black dresses are very popular.

I've never heard of this. Maybe they were playing a joke on the couple or something. Like them wearing black symboled the death of their single life or something like that.
