The colour 'black' differs between tattooists and particularly countries. Also, the same 'black' colour can turn out very different on different people's skin. Everyone has different colour skin and therefore different colour tatt. It's like getting your hair dyed, everyones will look different cos of hair shade. Also, over time black tattoos can fade into blue/green shades. This is due to wear and tear and of course the sun.

Older black inks did tend to turn a greenish colour over time, particularly if they were exposed to the sun a lot. This tends to be noticeable on people like, say, builders, who had a tattoo done many years ago and then worked out of doors a lot.

Whereas, you've probably also seen tattoos done more recently, with inks that are more stable, and on people who know not to let their tattoo be exposed to too much sun.

Black ink can fade to a greenish color over time due to general aging and sun exposure. Also, older inks were not as high quality as new ones so they were more likely to fade and discolor.

Usually if you get tattoos done by professionals who use good equipment and if you take care of your body and tattoos they will be vivid and bright for years and probably only require minor touch ups over time to restore their appearance.

Do not, I repeat, do not ever use tattoo goo. Wash three times a day with an antibacterial soap (don't over do the soap, and don't do it in a way that is rough on the skin). First two days, use a small amount of Aquaphor, after you clean it. After first 2 days, use Curel Fragrance Free Lotion (don't overdo it), and continue to keep it clean. The trick to a tattoo is to: not let it dry out and keep it clean (but don't overdo it), always pat dry, and never pick it (I know it's hard). This is all I have done to care for my many tattoos, and I have never had any problems. Accept the one time, I used tattoo goo. As for the scabs, consult the tattoo artist. Good luck.

Some black ink is greenish if its an older ink. Also, if the tattoo is in the sun alot its very likely that it will turn green. Mostly its age and sun that turns the tattoo green.
If you take care of it, moisturize it and always put sunscreen on it, it will prevent discoloration.

i don't know what you mean by "most tattoos" but none of mine look green or black. unless the ink is actually green or black.
i guess you are talking about older tattoos that have been overexposed to the sun and have faded? i believe that older inks that were black tend to "green" with age and sun damage.
newer tattoo ink that is black tends to just lose it's dark color and turn to a grey black kindof color when they are overexposed to the sun.

the best way to keep tattoos looking great is to avoid the sun at all costs. not just use sunblock but to keep the tattoos out of the sun. most people don't do that so they are stuck with a faded old looking tattoo long before they should.

it all depends on the care you give your tattoos right after you get them, and the age of your tattoos. If you make sure to keep lotion on your tattoo right after you get it, it helps the color adhere better. Also, the colors in a tattoo fade over time, to keep the color black, every time it looks like it is fading, have it retouched.

what? Green and black are very popular colors.

I have one that is red on one arm.

I have one that is yellow, red , blue, orange and white on the other.

some people prefer not to do full color tats and stick with a traditional blue color.

green makes sense for mermaids, ivy and certain types of dragons and such.
