The catholic church must wear some of the blame for this terrible pandemic that has killed so many millions. The church stands by it's prehistoric conviction that chastity is the best means to stop the infection well the results speak louder than words - it is not the best solution as they have continued to have sex perhaps if a more realistic approach to the problem was initiated and condoms used as a measure to stop the contamination Africa would be better off. The church made a decision not to support the distribution of condoms it therefore must be accountable for that choice. So clearly yes they are responsible.

You must remember that most of the African population are uneduacted they cant read they have little knowledge of desiese and they have no knowledge western religions - they do not have radio or television they have no news papers - so to say they should stop having sex is not the answer you must get in and educate them with options condoms and chastety then they maybe able to make an informed choice about their future. Religious fundumentalists who say they should blindly follow the christian faith are not giving these people enough credit not everyone believes everything that is told to them without any proof, blind faith is what has got this world into the trouble we have now.

To those religious zealots that believe you should only have sex after marriage and it's a sin other wise - Not everyone buys that stupid rule from the dark ages. Wake up and get a life and stop pushing your stupid half witted opinions on everyone that doesn't want to listen to you.

HIV/AIDS is brought about by sexual contact with another person with HIV/AIDS, or by sharing contaminated needles, or by sharing blood products, such as a blood transfusion from a positive HIV person to a negative HIV person. The Catholic Church forbids the use of condoms, not wanting to acknowledge this can prevent the spread of disease. It is up to the individual person to follow his own choice in this matter. Certainly an idealistic relationship where both man and woman are virgins before marriage and never have extramarital affairs would obviate the need for condom usage to prevent the spread of disease because they would not have the virus unless there were other sources of getting HIV. Using a condom can lessen the chance of an undiseased partner getting HIV/AIDS during sexual intercourse, if there is a chance of one partner being positive. The Catholic Church is not responsible for the spread of HIV/AIDS, only humans and animals are.

No. The problem is that this blogger is saying that people who listen to the Catholic Church don't use contraception. But the same people who allegedly listen to the church regarding not using condoms, completely disregard all the teachings of the church regarding sex outside the sanctity of marriage.

If people actually listened to the church and didn't have sex outside of marriage, then there wouldn't be an issue.

So, what kind of logic is it saying that people listen to the church when it tells them to not use condoms (which is a church rule, not a tenet of Christianity, by the way), but miserably fail to heed the strong message from the church to avoid sex outside of marriage?

Silly argument that reveals more about the author's ill-will towards the church, rather than shedding any light on the AIDS problem.

No, that's ridiculous. Sin, immorality is in charge for HIV/AIDS. The Catholic Church teaches abstinence and intercourse interior of a sacramental marriage. only because of fact maximum folk of people decide for to have intercourse outdoors of marriage and prepare sexual promiscuity...does no longer mean the Church could now substitute that's coaching on the priority. the instructions of God do no longer substitute with the popular opinion of society. The Church could stand authentic to God's regulation for His human beings. that's the Church's job...to shepherd the individuals, to deliver them to Christ. Doing an evil as a fashion to do some thing reliable isn't stunning. human beings make their very own possibilities. If we've been to stay, quite stay, as God designed...there could be no abortion and no STDs. only because of fact we've chosen to stay outdoors the regulation of God is not any reason to place blame on the ft of the Church or the religious. it is not out of the area of threat to tell human beings to no longer have intercourse...we are no longer animals, yet human beings. we've the skill to think of and behave an greater point.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.

If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?

People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).

Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.

In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin. Fornication with or without a condom is still fornication. Adultery with or without a condom is still adultery.

With love in Christ.

Since the catholic church opposes promiscuity, I believe the church is proactive in reducing the spread of AIDS. Just say NO !!!
The author of that liberal blog is clearly deranged.

I say no. They know they can just wear the condom and then go to confession. And aside from that, I don't think people that are so devoutly Catholic that they abide by that antiquated law are having trite sexual affairs with the type of people that are most likely to be carriers of the disease.

No. Don't you think it has alot to do with people being promiscuous and NOT using condoms? The church teaches abstinence before marriage and monogamy.

So those who are getting aids happen from unsafe sex, ouside of marriage/monagamy.

anybody can catch HIV/AIDS now adays yes you can wear a condom for protection but the only ones that are responsible for catching HIV/AIDS is junkies, people that don't protect theirselves from STD and when your sex partner doesn't tell you that they have the diease. you can also get it from hookers, and mostly using DIRTY NEEDLES.so don't go blaming any of the CHURCHES for your mistakes

How many times are you going to post this question under different names???

People who have sex with people they shouldn't have sex with ( not their spouses) are responsible for whatever diseases they come up with.

The only innocents are the faithful spouses and children who end up with the duiseases.

People are responsible for their own actions AND the consequences....unlike what our society teaches by denying any personal responsibility.
