I am a student receiving federal grants, Cal grants, and subsidized and unsubsidized loans. I received money from welfare for part of the year and didn't work last year. I have a daughter as well. Am I required to do taxes? I don't think so since I believe federal grants and welfare isn't taxed but just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

No, you are not required to file if you didn't have any income.

Regarding your student aid for next year, I think you may want to do an 1040EZ. It will have -0- 's in the blanks, but....

Also, if you have had long distance service on a land line or cell phone, or phone cards for the past few years, you may be eligible for the Telephone Excise Refund, and all you have to file is a 1040 EZ-T

No, and with no earned income, you would not receive a refund from EIC either. You have no income to report to the IRS.

No, unless you have some other income that you didn't mention, you have no reason to file.
