I have a 92 volvo and am wanting to find out if the smog levels are stricter in a normal (non enhanced) area of California or in Portland metropolitan Oregon.

California is tougher for the registration process. Plus it requires re-smogging every two years for any car newer then 1976

BUT..there are a few hidden exceptions.

Since you are near the Oregon Border, if you can register your car in Siskiyou County there is no bi-annual smog check since that is considered a smog-free county.

You still have to do the initial registration tho..that means that your engine and Car must meet California smog standards. That often requires modification of parts and the engine.

California has the worst smog law in the nation..
it is ridicules

Ca is probably way stricter...there arent many area the are non enhanced
