Actually the translation is really coat of many furs, possibly different colors of animal skin. And no there is no real meaning other than Joseph being his father's favorite.

I don't think that the colors themselves represented anything. The coat itself was a source of contention between the brothers because viewed the gift of the coat from their father as a sign of favoritism.

Dyes were not easy to come by in those days and colored fabric was an expensive and rare commodity. So, when Joseph received his coat of many colors, it was an expression of how much he was loved by his father.
