Everytime I go into the tattoo section and read the questions, I always see people commenting "Dont get any", "Tattoos are stupid", "tattoos are ugly". Basically, alot of very judgemental comments.
I have two small tattoos. They both very tasteful and in tasteful places where they are not visible by just anyone. They are also both symbols that mean alot to me and I would be proud to wear for the rest of my life.
There are many things I see in everyday life that I wouldnt do myself. I see people with green hair, I see people with facial piercings, etc. Although these are all things I wouldnt do, I dont judge the people for those things. Its a form of expression and things that like make people who they are.
My question is: what is it about tattoos that bother you SO much? Why hate them with such a passion that you judge people who have them?
Please try not to make any mean comments, I would simply like to understand why some people hate tattoos so much?
Thanks! :-)

Its funny how alot of people are saying "its stupid to mark yourself for life". Again with the ignorant and judgemental people.
So what if I mark myself for life? Its my body, not yours, if you dont want to look at them then guess what? You dont have to.

I also think it's funny that a lot of people who don't even HAVE tattoos KNOW that we will regret them later in life. I have had mine for more than 14 years, I still love it, and wouldn't change a thing.
Before answering questions, maybe you should review your source of advice.. like actually talking to a person with tattoos. You will see we are not freaks, we're just like you, just more creative.

I'm hoping someone here can come up with valid and logical answers. I've seen this asked before and half the responses involve God, which is subjective because not everyone is religious or insanely crazy about that topic or just involve a complete insult that doesn't provide any insight to back it up. And age is something that most people dread so using that as an argument doesn't fly for me.
I have 6 tattoos and 25 piercings by the way and I would never judge people the way some do.

I often wonder the same. I have tattoos that arent always visible (depending on what I wear) and I notice the difference in the way I am treated when people see them. My tattoos are also tasteful (and even if they werent, so what) and I don't understand what the big to do is. People get tattoos for different reasons. I for one think body art is beautiful. I got my tattoos during a time when I was going through a lot of pain so they mean something to me. I would love to see what others have to say in response to your question.

Tattoos in some peoples minds are associated with people who do dumb or dangerous things. Also "back in the day" only men in the military, tribal culturals, or social misfits (i.e. artists, bikers, free spirits, basically anyone thinking for themselves!) got tattoos. Some tattoos "back then" frequently said rude things or were of rude pictures--the image of the sailor with the naked hula dancer on his bicep or an army ranger with a downed plane that said something rude about the enemy his platoon conquered comes to mind..
When I got my tattoo my mother said "Why would you want to be associated with low lifes?" And that statement says it all, some people see you as a "nice, normal" person but may automatically lump you with their predjuices once they see your tat. They can't always help it because it was what they were lead to believe.
Tattoo artists and their patrons now come from so many walks of life and there are some many people with tats that I hope it is only a matter of time until body art is looked at with the same non-plused attitude most people have when they see a man with 2 pieced ears. Wear your tats loud and proud and be a positive example of what people with body art can be!!

Many people are taught & believe that tattoos are a mark of the devil & an abomination to God. Then there is the generation that believes that it is Ok for a man to have them, but if a woman has them, then she must be of loose morals. Not to mention the people who just don't think that it is "ladylike" & it spoils a womans chance at getting a decent man in her life! Personally, the only thing that bothers ME about tattoos is the fact that I can't afford to get the big backpiece that I want, so I'll stay blank, rather than risk having something that isn't me put on by someone that I don't trust! It's hard to find an Artist who is spiritually connected to the side of life that strives for balance, rather than imbalance! I don't judge others who have tats, I just use them as a reference point for what I don't want to see me end up as! Why do some people hate motorcycles? Probably because they knew someone who died on one, or they haven't yet learned to ride one & feel the wind in their faces! Let's face it, some people just aren't willing to step outside of their comfort zones for fear of whatever they are afeared of! Ignore these people. They aren't going away anytime soon.

what is considered a tasteful place?cause i have tattoos that are highly visible and i consider them tasteful.i have them on my forearms and wrists.i am not an ex con nor a devil worshipper.i am happily married and have 3 children and consider myself a good mom and wife.i dont drink or do drugs either.i think people who have tattoos dont understand why people are hating on us so bad because we are very open minded and wouldnt judge someone for something like that.im just glad that i will teach my children not to be so judgemental of people because they are different then them.i sometimes wonder if these same people that down us with tattoos also look down on people with mental, physical disorders.because if youre going to be so judging of someone with tattoos then they probably would judge the handicapped as well.truthfully i dont care what people have to say much.i see people staring at my tattoos when im out and to tell you the truth that is what theyre there for.so hate on me all you want it only hurts them not me

If it is in a tasteful place and has significant meaning to the person, like you described, and is something you know you will be proud to wear all your life it is different. Some people are foolish in their choices and either overdue it or pick something that in even 5 or 10 years they could regret. Personally I wouldn't get one but it just depends on the person. Some people do it as a sign of freedom too. It's the "just because i can" theory. I think if one is to get tattoo it should basically be just as you described yours.

I am a mom of 2 and YES I DO HAVE TATTOOS. i have 3 of them all in places that can be covered.itdrives me nuts when people say well you are scaring your self for life. well i would rather have a tattoo then a scar from being a idiot while drinking or any other scar. tattoos tell a story about parts of your life. i got my first tattoo when i was 16 that was almost 5 years ago and everyone said i would hate it. i still love it because it tells aapart of my life story. people like to think that only people that are "trailer trash" "rebles" or '' bikers" have tattoos. well thats not the case any more. check this out by donald trupm. I get all sorts of interesting questions on my various Websites and from regular letters in the mail. A lot of people ask me for business advice. A lot of people flat-out ask me for money. And a lot of people ask the strangest personal questions. Believe it or not, a couple of people have even asked me if I have any tattoos.
The fact is I don't like tattoos. I don't like seeing people destroying their bodies and I hate to see people putting people's names on their bodies only to have them removed at a later date when they break up a la Angelina Jolie who is not exactly one of my favorite women.
Anyway, the American Academy of Dermatology conducted a survey and found out that one out of three Americans under the age of 30 has at least one tattoo. But it's not just young people who are getting themselves inked. One-quarter of Americans under the age of 50 have a tattoo.
Not that long ago, I watched Dwayne Wade win the NBA Championship. He was great and he has no tattoos. It seems as if he's the only guy in the NBA without them! He looked fantastic. He also happens to play a great game of basketball.
There was one not-so-surprising statistic unveiled from the study. The researchers found that people who drink, do drugs, have spent time in jail or have given up religion are more likely to be tattooed. Why doesn't that surprise me? Do yourself a favor. If you want to be taken seriously, don't get a tattoo. At least not somewhere where the rest of us have to look at it.

I have three tattoos and two piercings and am planning on getting at least one more tattoo. Mine also are not in places where just anyone can see them. I don't care if others see them because I am not concerned with what others think of me.

I try very hard not to be judgementle. The reson I dont like tattoos is because you are perminatly scaring your body. I have two very closed minded parents and try to express my veiws but sometimes they do sway me. neither of them would let me go on living if I got a tattoo. as long as your a good person and the tattoos are tasteful (and arent all over your body) I dont mind them. your body is your business.
