I had 19 pictures including a video that I took of my children 2 years ago, in the internal memory. I was Very Specific about it; I told him that if he were to borrow the camera that he must not erase the pictures in the internal memory. To be certain he would not I went out and bought for him a chip to hold his own pictures. I made sure he knew how to use the camera. I know my camera, in order to erase a picture you must manually delete it. Well apart from the fact he told me that he would return the camera the following weekend, and didn’t for 5 weeks, when I finally received my camera he had erased the pictures in the internal memory. Instead of my pictures of my babies, there were pictures of his spider in its aquarium and of him karate chopping. I am pissed off, I told him that I was very upset about it and he said it was a mistake. A mistake? He mistakenly pressed delete, and when asked if he was sure he mistakenly pressed yes? Now he wants to borrow it to go on a trip and...

I told him no. I am now a giant ***** with no sense of generosity.
My Questions: What would be your reaction to this? Am I a giant ***** for not letting him use it again? And shouldn’t his appropriate reaction be to not have erased my irreplaceable pictures, and to apologize for having done so once he did?

Uhm, okay so #1 how old are you & your brother? If he has a job he needs to buy his own darn camera. #2 I question how often you used this if the pics were 2 years old and you hadn't done anything to transfer them. #3 It's in the past let it go. It isn't like these are the absolute ONLY pictures of your babies were they?? Honestly ask yourself, is this really worth ruining a family relationship? I say no it is not. Wait until his bday and buy him his own camera. Don't hold this grudge forever. Put yourself in the place of those who have had to deal with fires and hurricanes and lost EVERY SINGLE picture they had of their memories. You still have the memory anyway.

You are completely right in this situation. Your brother was careless to erase your pictures and as a grown man he should just own up to what he did and apologize. Also, if he is 37 and going on a vacation he should hopefully be able to just go out and buy his own camera. you can get a decent digial camera for less than $200 at best buy or even longs has digital cameras. He should just go get his own camera. If I were you I would have said no also. The first time he borrowed the camera he not only deleted your pictures but also took forever to return it- he gave you no reason what so ever to trust him with your camera again. By calling you a ***** for saying no he is only giving you a great demonstration of his immaturity.

37 ?? boy. I thought he was a 6 or 7 year old.

No. You shoul not be willing to take crap from him under the excuse that "He is your brother" .. he does something wrong and gets offended because you didnt like it. that is a lack of respect towards you and the trust you had in him (especially after YOU were the one that bought him an extra chip for his pictures).

If he is not fine with you not taking that crap from him, let him think what ever. It is not only the fact that he erased those irreplacable pictures (and those 5 weeks he took to give your camera back to you), is your trust in him he destroyed.

But you can still love him, just dont trust him again.

Instead of waiting for him to make the mistake, you should have just prevent it from happening. You should have transferred the pictures to your computer or something instead of just keeping in there where it is susceptable to being erased.
THink about it, you are going to get mad at YOUR BROTHER over a camera?
WHat is more important?
Im pretty surprised that you remembered that there were 19 pictures including a video on the camera also. Easiest thing you can do was to transfer it before letting him borrow it. THat way you wont be afraid of him deleting it on ACCIDENT.
Protect yourself first so taht there wont be any reason to blame others.

As any avid photographer will tell you, NEVER LEND A CAMERA TO ANYONE! It will get abused and if they damage it, they will not accept responsibility but say that it did not work when they got it... or some other b-s nonsense. NEVER lend a camera to anyone, if you value the camera. You might have kept your memory card and let him have the new one...? That might've saved you a lot of grief and annoyance. Do you also lend your car?

Maybe it's time for him to buy his own camera? Maybe it's also time for him to develop a sense of responsibility?

This lout has proven that not only does he not care to operate your camera correctly, but also that he has no regard for what is important to you.

If he wants to borrow a camera, let him borrow it from someone else - or, shudder, even buy one.

You are under no obligation to repeat your past bad experiences. If he wants to know why, you can say, "Well, it didn't out well the last time, and I have decided against it." Period. End of conversation.

Good luck!

While you are in your right to be upset about the loss of the pictures, and denying him the further use of the camera, consider that you may be partially to blame. You should have saved the pictures to the chip you bought and kept it, rather than handing it over blindly to your bro.

I'd tell him to go and buy his own damn camera.

Plus, he may be 37 but he sounds about 15.
