I just got braces taken out at the age of 29. Heres some of what she shouldn't or can't eat:
ANY STICKY FOOD - that includes caremel, laffy taffy, etc.
Popcorn
Apples, celery, and meat should be cut up before hand, and really, she should cut up ALL of her food before she eats it.
If she bites into something hard or stringy (celery, for instance) she can put enough stress on the bracket and pop it off. The exceptions are foods like ice cream, yogurt, bananas, etc. They are soft enough (of course!) and the bracket should slice right through those foods.
May I make an extra recommendation?Get her one of those little cone-shaped toothbrushes and have her carry it with her wherever she goes. Food WILL get caught between the tooth and bracket and it's mighty unsightly and unhealthy.
One more thing - flossing with braces is like threading a needle - a royal pain in the a**. But it's even more important to floss with braces than ever, because a toothbrush simply will not clean as effectively.
GOOD LUCK TO YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!

Stay away from very sticky foods (taffy, caramel, etc.) and very cruchy foods like hard pretzels, raw carrots, corn nuts, and the like. Breaking off a bracket can cause problems, including lengthengin out the time that your daughter will have to wear her braces, and some orthodontists begin to charge a fee if too many brackets are broken during treatment. When she has her braces put on, your orthodontist should provide you with detailed information about how to care for the braces, including proper food choices.
One very important thing is to keep the teeth clean. A great way to do this is with a water pick, which can be purchased at many local drug stores. Neglecting oral hygiene while wearing braces can cause a particular type of splotchy white staining on the teeth that may not be able to be removed later and it may require cosmetic dentistry to improve the appearance.

First off candy in general is bad because of the decay it can produce around the Brackets.
That being said the two things you want to remember Hard and Sticky.
Hard foods and candies can bend wires and pop off brackets. Dentists make big money every year on broken teeth and if it can break teeth think about what it will do to thin metal bands.
Sticky foods pull on the brackets and wires. This is not only a problem because of the undo stress it puts on the braces, but also because it is much harder to remove with brushing and flossing.

Avoid taffy, sticky candies that can adhere to the braces (e.g. caramel) & really hard, crunchy candy (toffee).
Get a Water Pik to rinse out the braces & between the teeth.
Ask the dentist/orthodontist if you should get some sort of wax to protect the inner checks from the braces.

These are the foods you should BE CAREFUL with:
Popcorn
Corn on the cob
Sticky peanut butter
Carrots
Pizza crust
These are the foods you should NOT HAVE:
Gummy fruit snacks
Gum
Apples
Carmals
Fruit roll-ups
When I say should be careful with it does not mean take completly out of her diet just have her be careful when eating these foods. The dentist or orthodontist usally gives you a list about this.

anything stickey (peeps, gummy worms, etc). Popcorn kernels will get caught in her gums and perhaps not come out well then get infection; carmel a big no no; gum (altho all the kids will tell you they do it); Moutain Dew is HORRID on regular teeth let alone those you're paying $5,000 for. The orthodontist will give you a list.
