Typically, a panini uses panini bread, or some kind of specialty artisan bread such as a ciabatta. These breads are not your square white or wheat bread that you buy in a package at the grocery store. They are usually bakery breads. And yes, you can make a panini sandwich on your George Foreman grill. They should come out almost as good as if you had used a panini press.

Grilled cheese sandwich is typically a sliced bread grilled with cheese and a meat.

A Panini (Italian) is a sandwich typically on a roll.
The panini can be grilled or not.
If the panini is grilled, it's similar to grilling the whole sandwich - meaning it would contain the meat and cheese plus any veggies (except lettuce) and condiments.

So a grilled panini is simliar to a grilled cheese, except a panini you use a roll, condiments and veggies.

The differance is that a Panini has meat like chicken and bacon in it and a grilled cheese just has cheese and sometimes bacon. Yes you can make a Panini on your George Foreman grill. Just put mayo or miracle whip on two slices of bread and then on the side with mayo put diced chicken and 3 slices of bacon and your favorite kind of cheese on it and top with remaining bread(mayo side touching cheese), and grill!!!! This is really good!!!

You don't usually press a grilled cheese. I think the panini comes from the pressing. You can make it, but it'll be extremely flat if you use regular bread like Wonder Bread.
