I am Catholic. My maternal grandmother was Presbyterian. They moved to a small town inTexas where there was only 2 churches, not Presbyterian.
Ministers from both churches came by to invite them to their respective churches, one was very disparaging of the other church. My grandmother said after he left, "Well I know one thing, we aren't going to his church. "
I heard a priest tell about family in East Texas who converted to Catholicism. What had impressed them is they knew a Catholic family that never had anything unkind to say about someone else's faith.
Why don't all of us realize the negative remarks about another's religion doesn't reflect well on the person making the remark and their religion?

How I wish everyone would get your point! Those who are impolite to others are simply committing a spiritual error.

I keep having to do this, so please bear with me. Everyone should simply look up the definition of religion. I used Merriam-Webster's online version, and low and behold, I found that religion can be defined as simply a system of beliefs. This means that if you believe at all, including the belief that their is no god, you are practicing some sort of religion. Therefore, only agnostics can say that they don't belong to a religion. Atheism is a religion; in fact, it is my religion. That being said, you make a valid point. There is no point in bashing people who believe in something different than you believe. It serves as an injustice to their own causes. I believe their is no god; you believe their is a god. Do I think your stance is any less valid than mine? No, I don't. I just believe that your religion is wrong for me. I may be right; I may be wrong. I guess we'll just have to wait until death to find out, if even then.

I think it has to do with greed actually. Throughout history, religion has based its 'power' upon how many people are in its group. the desire for more power and more wealth by those in charge of these social circles, who may preach to you about respect, tolerance, and trying to do the right thing, can and does overcome the desire to do what is right or be respectful. i'm not saying they're all like that, but there are those who will do whatever is necessary to further their own 'cause.'

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that any one's views or beliefs are right or wrong, this is just how i observe the human phenomenon called religion.

It's true, if more "Christians" were led by the Spirit of love, churches would be bulging at the seams. But because so many are not, it makes the job of forgiveness a high priority in order to maintain a joyful life.

Some are really bad that way. Sort of like a Chevy salesman putting down Fords. They are after the same customers when it comes down to it, they all want your money and try to keep you from going to the other guy. Religion is like Walmart vs Target. All sell the same stuff and are after the same customers

Having grown up in a small town in East Texas and been exposed to the gruesome politics of inter-church relations, I can tell you that a lot of these Protestant denominations have a lot of rancor back and forth between them, each one thinking of themselves as "TRUE CHRISTIANS" to the exclusion of all other Biblical interpretations.

That's grassroots religious conservatives for you. And they say liberals are stuck up....

Its unfortunate that people insult and radiate hate towards members of the same religion.

I know atheists that are more tolerant than some of faith (Christian, Jew, etc) where I live.

All religion is nonsense. The worse they talk about each other, the better.

It saves us Atheists a lot of work.

True, as we all know God is very tolerant to other people's religions. He always talks about how all gods are equal and how he feels all religions deserve respect. (yes, I'm being sarcastic)

Agree with poster none, all religions are just as silly as each other. As population evolves, eye-rolling will increase.
